Background:
Monsters & Memories started as a discussion between MMO fans during a series of livestreams, about what it would be like to create a niche, smaller budget / indie game, in the style of a Classic Fantasy MMORPG, but utilizing modern day tools and game development practices.

Awesome stuff man, one thing for the darkness in the cracks of the bricks or stone blocks reading the height data. The height data for darkness in the blocks and cracks of the blocks should be read from top down (especially porous rock like sandstone) due to rain and weathering effects. Darkness at the base of the blocks and cracks is caused by a build up of dirt and mud over time (commonly from foot traffic and heavy rain.) Anyway, looks great love to see new textures.

To answer the question of "What is an appropriate value proposition for early access buy in?" - I think from my perspective it's kind of a balancing point of having enough to keep a casual observer or someone who stumbles into it interested while still being clear that there is more to come. But also on the other side of that coin - I worry that casual interest may dry up for something that is both subscription *and* early access, so you may be stuck with old grognards like me. :D For what I personally would be looking for (as someone who's pretty much sold on the idea conceptually) is like a landmass similar in scale and content to like, Faydwer in EQ, 5ish overland zones, 3ish cities and three dungeons. Cap levels at about Half of what you expect the final max to be. At least enough of the core classes being functionally complete in those level ranges that you aren't struggling to make balanced parties. I get that you'll have things like Inquisitor and Spellblade that didn't really have (finished) EQ / Vanguard Analogs, and even the ones that did are still going to take time to work out abilities and the feel of the class to make sure it fits well. For what it's worth, compared to some other new MMOs in development, I think you're probably coming at it from the right direction. I hope everything goes well for everyone on the team.

i've been following a bunch of MMO development. monsters & memories is the best looking when it comes to providing game play that doesn't attempt to railroad the micro-engagements between players and players, and players and monsters. examples of this are: 1) encounter locking 2) skill use timing 3) general movement 4) skill sets lots of games attempt to control every little interaction between game objects in an attempt to stop players from discovering skill use that is outside the developer intention. i'm glad to see someone developing a game that will allow players to just play. on another topic: also i appreciate your logical discussion about failed game releasess. i think the best way to release an MMO is to drop a very solid framework: everything works, lore is in place, blah blah blah. then drop a massive world map, but only implement a portion of it: add new zones in free expansions, but never tell people what new content was added, how to get there, ect... let them discover it. you could probably spend a year or two fleshing out the full map. then release another expansion in exactly the same way. you dont need a ton of content: just give a single initial raid instance, and supporting zones for players to get there. exploration in MMOs is one of the greatest, and completely lost by 2024, things about the game genre. By adding new content in and forcing players to figure out where and what it is, you'd give them that exploration back.

could leave it open for a few zones and sell it early access. disney dream light valley didn;t have too much but we still spend tons of hours.

I set myself a simple few rules 1. I must enjoy the game 2. I must get 2 hours of game time per 1 dollar spent. If M&M has a box price or EA price of 30 dollars I would like 60 hour of game time. If there is a sub on top say if 10 bucks, I would want an additional 20 hours of play. At the point that I’m spending more than I’m receiving based on my rules, I stop spending.

As long as the classes and races are on par with like a Neverwinter Nights Diamond character it should be gravy. I mean all of WOWs classes are typical the one thing they did was add a true shapeshifting class which I think was a big draw. My take is some people want to skulk and go into stealth mode afk, some people want to rp a wild animal. Probably some kind of PVP arena etc. But the biggest problem with lower pop lower budget mmos is people feel lonely if the pop is down on their server etc. and they are mindlessly farming critters for exp with no one around and they log. Solution is Fables npc system and probably hirable npc companions like GW1 had that way you have constantly roaming caravans of peoples who might be traders, vendors or henchmen who get attacked by the roaming npc bandits etc. You dont want to be alone in the movie theater even if the other people there are not real.

baffled when people say stuff like "omg so surprised DCUO is still going!!"... DCUO grosses more money than EQ. fact. according to their own numbers. however the licensing fee makes it a little less profitable than EQ. DCUO was and is an amazing MMO and is very very active. hands down one of the best combat systems i've ever played and a world that oozes comic vibe. Every time i say this all the City of Heroes fanboys get their capes all twisted but DCUO superpunches CoH/V into oblivion. I liked CoH but it is basically EQ in spandex costumes. DCUO captures the feeling of a comic superhero/villain like no other game. I certainly have my issues with the game but damn, respect its quality.

A complete game to me just means there is no wipe. There is content from 1-50 and re playability. Enough mobs to camp or chase. Bug are bugs I am more looking for a flushed out feel. There doesn't really need to be an end similar to EverQuest. I'd pay a nominal key fee to get access to a test realm that is able to be played now. But sub fee i'd pay once the games ready to release on steam or w.e
