Create halftones in Photoshop using gradient filled shapes.
In this video you will learn how to make halftones in Photoshop using gradients as the base. You will learn what the options in the Color Halftone dialog mean and how to configure them to get the result you want. Also learn how the type of gradient you use will impact the resulting halftone.
Once created, you can use these halftones in a number of ways in your art.

In previous versions of photoshop you could use a gradient to 100% transparent but it was removed. Not sure why. Thanks for the tip, I was wondering why I couldn't make these gradients anymore in photoshop. Wish they kept it with color to transparency though!

I hadn’t seen this in the new version of Photoshop Jamie, thanks for the heads up. Can you make your gradients partially or fully transparent? Do you need help with this? Let me know. It might be a good video topic.

@@HelenBradley Hello. I dont have a problem making the gradients. Its just that in older versions of photoshop you didn't two color gradient. Back then all you needed was a gradient with color and the other end 0% transparency. With newer versions of photoshop you have to have that alpha second color in the gradient.

Hello from the UK (you sound like you're the other side of the world). Thanks for this - Well explained! 🙂👍 QUESTION: How can we stop the dots looking so linear? That is ... regardless of the angle you set in the halftone filter (45degrees etc), with all your examples, the dots look linear - they are all lined along a square like plane. TO TRY AND EXPLAIN MY PREDICAMENT SOME MORE... Say I draw a circle (as you did), then I apply a radial gradient (as you did) ... If now want the resulting Halftone Effect to look like the resulting dots 'grow outward' from the centre of drawn circle ie.In a 'circular fashion' from the centre of your circle shape, How can we achieve this? I understand that halftone originates from Printing etc (hence linear results), but from a Graphics Design perspective, it would look Free'er (more natural / creative) if the dots weren't all aligned to each other in a linear/square formation. Thanks in advance for your help!! 🙏

Ah! That is the question. There’s a lot of work involved in making it into a pattern because it’s not, by nature, even enough to repeat. So it’s not a one click solution, I’m afraid.
