Way to stick it out on a tough day and find some great opportunistic catches along the way! Best of luck next time for halibut! Tight lines! Captain Zac

Those are great consultations! Pacific cod is a rare treat imo (at least one you caught yourself). Really nice size lings too.

Thank-you. I would like to get the cod dialed in. My family would enjoy eating them more since they know what they are. I wouldn't have caught this one if I hadn't watched your video. Thank-you.

All credit to Peter Klous on that vid. That was basically a free guided trip. The only thing I had to do was puke on the fish! 🤮

Too bad about the Halibut. Do you see how big it was? Whoa, im getting seasick just watching your boat bob back and forth 💦 Nice lingcod, rockfish AND a cod! 🐟🐟🐟 Why cant the vermillion go back down? Too deep for them to swim? I really like the release shots.
@PeelingLine
@PeelingLine Месяц назад
I didn't have any halibut on. I just went halibut fishing and failed to get any. Seems some rockfish have bigger air bladders relative to others and are harder to get down. The yellowtail and quillbacks I don't have to use the descending device on but the vermillions and china rockfish can't get down on their own usually. I did the release shots on my iphone 14 in the slo-mo mode.

Those are gonna be some good eaters. Nice teeth on those lings. Never tried pacific cod.

@PeelingLine Месяц назад
For sure. Apparently Atlantic Cod (what they use for fish and chips) is a little sweeter tasting than pacific ones. Maybe I should do a taste test and buy some Atlantic to compare.

I think a couple of those were Canary… They look like Vermilion but with a white lateral line… Pretty sure they’re open to keep if you were in area 4
@PeelingLine
@PeelingLine Месяц назад
The one at 9:20 was a canary for sure. You are right about keeping them but I have enough rockfish right now. I could've got a limit of black rockfish but I wanted to keep trying for halibut. I am loaded on lingcod now too. Might keep one or 2 more but not going to go for them specifically.
@tymartin5099
@tymartin5099 Месяц назад
@@PeelingLine Yeah we got into the Canary’s pretty thick about a month ago on the Halibut opener weekend… I really should finish eating up the last of my 2023 rockfish before keeping much more also… The ling and halibut always get eaten up the fastest,lol Halibut has always been a grind for me inside the straight… Would you ever think about running your new boat out to one of the banks if the weather was right?
@PeelingLine
@PeelingLine Месяц назад
@@tymartin5099 I did go to swiftsure this day and I was the only one out there. The boat handled the trip well. It was basically a trip there and back (there was only one boat out there and he left pretty quick). But I went out there and found it was too hard to fish with the wind and waves. I also need an electric reel because hauling a 3 pound weight 400' even without a fish is tiring. I also am getting a 4' antenna with a better radio to make it safer out there.
@tymartin5099
@tymartin5099 Месяц назад
@@PeelingLine Yeah it’s pretty much impossible to fish offshore solo since you almost always need to back troll into the wind… I good heavy duty right angle rod holder makes it a lot easier too so you’re not stuck holding your gear with all that weight the entire time. Always an awesome experience out there though… Nice Lings and those true cod are good eats too!
@PeelingLine
@PeelingLine Месяц назад
@@tymartin5099 I have an ulterra riptide but I only have 24 volts hooked to it so I max out at 2.5mph. So any pull harder than that is hard to counter. But when the waves and wind are messing with you it is really tough. I can usually do it when it isn't crazy.

Yes, Neah Bay. I kept both lings and the cod. I caught a few of them last year at Jeff Head. I think they are making a comeback in Puget Sound.
