Come along with us to go halibut fishing on the west coast of BC in Prince Rupert! This is a self guided trip in my dads Kingfisher 2225 Escape. We had a great time, caught our limit of fish and at the end I show you how I fillet my halibut to legally transport them home.

No problem at all. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Please consider subscribing to the channel if you haven't already. Once as you get the angle figure out, it becomes so easy. Having a very sharp knife helps too. I keep mine sharp enough to cut paper.

Sheldon, great video. Really cool how those halibut filets were all connected to the tail. Hadn’t seen that before. Looks like you are in for some nice meals!! Enjoy.

Thanks for watching Scott. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Ya I started doing my halibut like that a few years ago just to simplify bagging them and taking them home. I don't know of anyone else that does it that way other then close family and friends that I've shown. It's a pretty slick way of doing it.

Thanks for watching! These halibut are actually small. Excellent for eating but they are known to get over 300 pounds. These ones were all around 10 to 15 pounds.

Preparing for our trip in 2 weeks to port ed, obviously sand bottoms is the best but have you had luck on gravel and mud bottom? Also which depths do you guys typically shoot for ? Thanks for any advice you can lend
@BuickOutdoors
@BuickOutdoors Год назад
the rock bottoms are good for the ling and rock fish but halibut dont like it. We will fish them anywhere between 200 to 400 feet but ive also heard of people catching halibut where they crab fish in 60 feet.
@NorthPineOutdoors
@NorthPineOutdoors Год назад
Is it law to keep that fin on? What I read on the government website is a halibut that size can be cut into 4 fillets but never mentioned anything about leaving that fin attached. Maybe it was an out dated version , would suck to have to thaw the halibut out and cut it into smaller portions once you got home
@BuickOutdoors
@BuickOutdoors Год назад
Ya you have to leave the fin by their head on so they can measure it. The tail fin only has to be attached to one of the four fillets I believe. I haven't been back to the ocean for a couple years now so it could of been changed. I would just double check the regulations to make sure. Would suck to lose all of your catch over something simple. I like to leave the four fillets attached to the tail so everything is in one bag and when I get home I thaw all of my fish out to process it anyways and vacuum wrap them into single portions.
@NorthPineOutdoors
@NorthPineOutdoors Год назад
Ya makes sense for sure, better to thaw it out later and process it in smaller portions , thanks for the advice
