Halion 7's FM Lab vs A Real DX7 

Almost identical. I have the TX81Z and Halion with their FM engine sound exactly the same. Good work YamasTeinberg. Thanks for video.

Thanks for this demo. Halion 7 fmlab sounds very close to a real dx7, i guess. I allso did a quick test with dexed and fmlab, fmlab allmost sound a bit warmer and deeper. Sometimes, you have to reprogram some of the dx7 patches in fmlab , just abit, to get closer to the real dx7, but in general , the halion 7 fmlab, sounds very similar to dx7. Most people thing the real dx7 , sounds so big and fat, etc, same goes to the dexed, but thats not true at all, you have to put lots of efforts of adding exstra eq, chorus, delays, to make the patches sounding better. When i first downloaded the dexed (free dx7 vst emulation plugin), dexed did sound dull and boring, thats why i add many fx to the dexed, to get a more fat , and varm sound, and its makes a big difference. This is allso, what they did in the 80’s, added a lot of fx, bass, etc to the synths, in the studio.

It sounds amazing and I couldn't tell the difference. I've also used the free Dexed which is great, but I still think this FM Lab is worth because it is stereo and it sounds warmer than Dexed.

Just picked halion up yesterday on sale and crossgrade price. For £106 it is pretty phenominal. Love it already. Cant wait to get into the guts of it.

97%similar. The difference would be indecipherable in a m8x. The DX7 is ever so slightly phatter on a few sounds ..but that can be addressed by running the Halion through plugins.

But the sounds are very Casio sounding , I was there in 1983 myself and even then thought those sounds were pretty weak. It’s all down to production skills to make these sounds any good. And even then how to use a good sound the right way.

Works for me and you get to make your own algorithms!

The DX7 sounds richer and smoother and this is coming from someone who has a lot of steinberg stuff.

Was HALion in DX-7 mode under emulation during this test? Even if it wasn't it sounds super close.

ah haha i noticed halion 7 has narrow stereo.. but it sounds almost identical

not convinced by this one I dont think its the velocity
