i have not seen this pvc, but i can see many uses for this and will to find it here. so easy to learn by watching others working. thanks for your time, makes my sunday.
Yes brown pvc is great as used to core the fibreglass... I used to fill up the gaps that need to much putty... better solution and lighter!!! Thx for watching
Looks nice & thanks for the VLOG! I contacted my epoxy supplier and he said that bronze is problematic material, because oxidation. "rudder fittings being made from a marine grade bronze are corrosion resistant - and so will corrode very quickly reforming its protective skin/copper oxide, when you remove it by sanding / grit blasting etc. In fact the oxide layer will reform in seconds - defiantly less than 60 seconds." Epoxy do not stick to copper oxide... He says that "This is done by using wet and dry abrasive paper and sanding the surface of the bronze through the liquid epoxy - so do not let the epoxy cure. The liquid epoxy stops oxygen reaching the surface of the bronze and reforming the oxide layer, so the epoxy is in direct contact with the surface of the bronze making a good bond. " Actually there was epoxy putty on my HR rudder bronze parts and it cracked loose after one summer :( . I try to repair this winter.
I used a different type of epoxy putty made for this pourpouse... I will see in a while what happening.. in any case I know any millimetres of rudder do something happen I will make the work in different way ... we will see! Thanks for the information!
Hello you can check if the stuffing box is too tight( check my video regarding this argument) sometimes to avoid water entering and you never replace the cords inside you need to tight hard and this could cause stiff rudder.. check also the deck support and alignment good luck
Got a 312 myself, and am about to do the exact same repair as you. Any chance you can put a link for the PVC Foam and the Putty you use? Cant seem to find something similar. Cheers, and appriciate
Good progress on the rudder! It will be nice to see it finished. I had a thought the other day. Once the boat is done will you sail to different places around the world or stay local to your area?
