@@bmaxime8771 Ariel’s whole shtick is that she has a beautiful voice…. That’s why she beat the other actresses out. She could take acting lessons, but it’s much more difficult to find someone who can sing like her. Plus, she didn’t ask for the audition, the director himself asked her specifically to audition. Even she said she was shocked she got the part because she didn’t look like the Ariel in her head. Ariel’s whole thing is her voice. Having someone who sings so heavenly loose their voice is what makes the plot.

From all the interviews im seeing they were obviously expecting to choose a white ariel despite the amount of auditions from different races. It just seemed like in terms of character she was best for the role. The others couldve gotten it for the looks but failed because they simply didnt have the character

Im not sure about her acting but she is a good singer. The problem is that Disney set her up for failure by miscasting her to push an agenda. I hope in the future she chooses her roles carefully. A lot of people will try to use her as a diversity hire. Only pick roles you believe you are fit to play.

There is no criteria for an audition except to arrive prepared as there is no way to know what aspect of the character that they want you to represent they’re looking for in your presentation - it quite simply doesn’t matter & completely up to them - but judging how you feel about your presentation isn’t a bad thing especially if used to ensure you are reasonably prepared for the next one - try to not obsess about it

Singing styles change over time. 1989 Disney song styles was based on what was popular at the time. Plus Halle’s voice sounds younger, which fits 16 year old Ariel better. Halle has plenty of grace in her voice. Very angelic vocals

@@marriewatkins3386 i feel bad for them. Her voice faltered twice. Instead of singing it like Jodi, who the song was written closely with, they should have changed some stuff. Ashman, the original creator of Part of Your World, specifically told Jodi, the original voice of Ariel, to not just belt it, to sing it more like a monologue. What did Halle do? She belted it. And failed twice in the same song.

That's not her fault. It's the voice direction. The original Ariel was belting until she was carefully coached on just how they wanted the song sung.
