@@Simalf13you didn't pay attention to the terminal logs? Refumee said it himself, that once made an Arbiter they belonged to the Prophets. And it was no small observation but a pretty significant one, because the shame of their failure and the implications of their status as an Arbiter made an Elite specially zealous and with a martyr mentality. He basically figured that once he was an Arbiter, there truly was no way to bring him into the fold, simple as. His bringing 343 Guilty Spark into the conversation was not to convince Thel, but to distract him.

@@helikos1 Well, in the 1st Halo Trilogy, there was a very good reason why the portal was on Earth, it was simply because WE are the Forerunners. Before you dismiss my words as crap, there are some lines of dialogue that point towards that being the case. In the cutscene where Spark betrays Master Chief, he has lines of dialogue indicating that he interacted with us before. Not John specifically, but presumably one of his kind, pointing towards the Forerunners and humans being the same species. And in Halo 3, before we fight him, Spark says this: "You ARE Forerunner, but this installation, is mine." And Truth earlier remarks after he kills Miranda that: "Now I know why they left you behind."
@helikos1
@helikos1 3 года назад
@@JMObyxWhen you refer to "he has lines of dialogue indicating that he interacted with us before" is this in Halo CE when 343 asked if you asked him the same question the answer is still we must fire the rings? Similar to that anyway. Have you read any of the books? I would not count 343's words as the word of god, so to speak. He's rampant af and on occasion refers to all humans he speaks to as the same reclaimer and John as a forerunner. In fact that scene I mentioned, in the control room of Halo CE the conversation 343 is talking about is one between "Bornstellar-Makes-Eternal-Lasting" and himself. I believe Bungie wanted human to be physical descendants of the forerunner, whereas we know from Halo 4 they aren't, that Humans were suppose to take up the mantle. Therefore "reclaim" that what was forerunner. Whether the ancient human actually originated on Earth I'm unsure but makes sense to place the portal on the planet that you're seeding the reclaimers of your legacy. Makes it a little easier to find lol I like proper conversations about halo

I found myself nodding along to everything mentioned here. SO many parts of the expanded universe were referenced, and every one of them checks out. The Arbiter is really the only character in all of Halo that's more than just a sci-fi stereotype (apart from maybe the Didact and Halsey). He's conflicted, full of equal parts rage and sorrow, vengeful against first his own failure, and then his unjust disgrace. He despises "the Demon" for besting him, but comes to regard him as the single greatest warrior he has ever shared a battlefield with. By his hand were many battles won, mighty Reach was glassed, Chieftain Tartarus slain, the head of the Covenant cut off in the form of Truth's death, and Sanghelios liberated from the Covenant's influence once and for all, the old traditions restored. Master Chief is cold, emotionally repressed due to his upbringing, and motherfucking unstoppable- which is why we love him. But the Arbiter by far has the most interesting arc.

Sesa is even more interesting than Thel. He declares his apostasy and rebels against the false prophets in complete abnegation and against tremendous odds. Thel is a well intentioned and honorable character, but he literally always stays on the most advantageous side for him in every situation and doesn't look as courageous in comparison. "I wondered who the hierarchs would send to silence me. An Arbiter ! I am flattered..." "I would rather die by your hands than let the prophets lead me to slaughter" speaks volume. Not to mention that he is not entirely a soldier, but an emeritus forerunner technology archaeologist, leader of an artefact retrieving team (hence the weird, whimsical looking armors), in short a sangheili Indiana Jones xD

Thel was the reason the covenant were winning at all. The humans could beat other covenant commanders, look at the first half of the battle of reach before Thel arrived, we could fight them off. It was his flexibility and ruthless fighting that lead to many of the worlds falling. The reason we even won the battle of instillation 04 was because the prophet was trying to take control from Thel which lead to conflicting orders and little to no organization amongst the covenant ranks. The finding of the halo rings was possibly the luckiest things to happen to humanity in the halo universe.

While I'm still watching the terminals, from what I've seen all of it is just poking more into history of the series that was already established. This doesn't seem at all indicative of 343's writing, rather than just translating a lot of the already written information in a new form or different perspective. This doesn't redeem how they handled Halo 4's story. You can only wait until Halo 5 for that.

SolidSp33d Although almost all of the events shown in these terminals were established by Bungie, none of them had been portrayed with such detail and with a connective narrative that ties them all together and makes a clear message. The Taming of the Hunters and the Unggoy Rebellion were only known by name before these terminals, we had no idea what caused them or how they were quelled. Also, the short sections where we are introduced into Sangheili culture before the Covenant is completely new and very well delivered IMO. Making all these important events in Halo lore fit into a short 30-minute video is no easy task.

You mean the covenant?
@kerianhalcyon2769
@kerianhalcyon2769 8 лет назад
+Oskar Mora Nah, it's a little more complicated than that. The Covenant is a conglomerate of different races with a similar "origin story," essentially a race that existed somewhere near Forerunner technology, who began to worship the Forerunners as gods (for indeed, if you had the technology to make and unmake worlds, does that not make you a god?). A sect of the Prophet race, after discovering the big ship seen in the end of Halo 2, decided to use the Forerunner technology rather than simply revere it. The resulting civil war between their people destroyed part of their planet after the ship took off, and from the remnants they built High Charity; the huge station that's the epicenter of the Covenant Fleet. They didn't discover the "Great Journey" part of their beliefs until much later, likely as a result of a mistranslation of old Forerunner text that detailed the Halos and the Flood, likely as a result of exposure to the Didact's dogma regarding humans and prometheans. To the Covenant, specifically the Prophets, heresy is anything that separates from the Great Journey ideology of their people. This is the explanation why there is still a large group of Elites, Grunts, Jackals, and Hunters still working together as their own Covenant; they still worship the Forerunners despite their Covenant's destruction and the Great Schism.
@PKM9107
@PKM9107 8 лет назад
It's not that they're atheist it's that they know the covenant religion is bullshit and based off lies seeing as the Forerunners planned for humanity to be reclaimers. Many elites still have some forerunner centric religion even after the great schism

The Arbiter, before he realised the Prophets were lying to his people, is my favourite kind of Villain. An unstoppable force that will completely crush anything that stands in his way, but with a sense of honour that prevents gratuitous cruelty. Giving the marines time to arm up before fighting them was such a chad move. Man, I bet he feels terrible after destroying so many UNSC worlds. Sure, at the time they were his enemy and they were at war, but the entire conflict was based on a lie- those people didn't have to be his enemies. The Arbiter was always my favourite character, I kind of lost interest in Halo when he stopped showing up.

Establishing all these dimensions in Halo 2 was a really great move on Joseph Staten's part and, even if the Arbiter's levels themselves weren't quite as fun to play, I greatly appreciate how much his story expanded the universe of Halo. These terminals allow the broader audience of Halo fans and new players not familiar with the books to learn more about the underlying lore. In that regard, I think they did a phenomenal job. As for advancing the plot, that's what Halo 5: Guardians is for. Just wait a year.

I absolutely died when they referenced the Arbiter from Halo Legends.

Anyone else realize that the scene from 12:35 - 12:50 was that story from HALO: Legends?? They actually made it as official lore and put it into the game, which is pretty cool! XD

***** Well I already knew is was official canon, but I'm basically just saying the same thing you are: it's pretty cool to have seen a reference to The Duel from HALO: Legends. And it also kind of proves the fact that the episodes are lore because a lot of people don't "want" to believe they are simply because it is anime :/

***** lol I've already slapped this video and that scene in the face of a bunch of people who I've talked to recently who said The Duel wasn't lore. I haven't heard from any of them since XD

Yan SILVA GALAN I had no idea that Homecoming was referenced too. Sweet!

+Yan SILVA GALAN The only Legends episode I have problems with canon wise is 'the package'. I say that because Halsey looks as though she's in her twenties or thirties in that episode. Unless that one was supposed to be a clone or something. Given all the stuff Halsey has done I wouldn't put it past her.

@@idawg42xlpwn I think canonically she was older
