This is one of the most intense and epic scenes in Halo 3, a turning point the main plot and the cinematic that makes the Elites look more powerful than flimsy.
What I love most about this scene, humans and Elites uniting together. Both species have been at each other’s throats for years, but despite all that, they choose to stand together as brothers in arms against a common enemy.

Hedronox No, Cortana's solution was the other Halo ring. By luring the Gravemind to what it thought would be a sanctuary, they could activate the ring and destroy the Flood without firing the remaining rings, and wiping the Galaxy clean of life. The Ark was the important piece of the plot as it would construct replacement Halo rings. The replacement was not in contact with the other rings, so it was a contained firing, outside of the Galaxy. The initial objective was to stop Truth from activating the rings from the Ark. The secondary objective was to stop the Flood. That is where Cortana's plan comes into play.
Am I the only one who can't help but feel a bit "bored" when Johnson and the Arbiter seem to be collecting weapons to pass out, only to not really do much of that on-screen? Dunno, not as epic as the end, when Hood and the Chief part ways.
Okay anybody think this was a setup by the gravemind this whole time the gravemind could have easily infected a planet if he wished by releasing spores into the atmosphere and the message Cortana had for chief in the ship just happen to be the same city he is in
