It’s still funny because there is literally never a “good” ending in a Halo game, either someone gets left out in space, a city gets glassed, or hundreds of millions are dead. But the fun thing about Halo is that besides the shitty situations, there’s always those small victories, such as in here when Alpha-Nine gets the asset out and they survive but the city gets glassed, or in Halo Reach when, even though the entire planet was glassed, they arguably helped to save humanity by getting Cortana to the Autumn. That’s Halo’s charm, at least in my opinion, there’s no grandios amazing ending, not everything is peachy, but it’s those small victories that makes everything bittersweet.

I went poking around, and the plan to drop into the carrier was literally called Operation: BUMRUSH, and one of the ships the ODSTs deployed from is called "Say My Name." But I couldn't find any information on the other ODSTs, who definitely should have survived as well but I guess would have been in a different section of the city, which would explain why we never see any?
