Lack of characterization, few to no characters in this game stuck strongly with you that I remember.. maybe Cortana but thats it. Other than that, game was amazing!
I get goosebumps every time I see this awesome intro. Memories of a time when everything was simple. Halo: A franchise that has influenced me like no other. Thank you Bungy!
@WakoKevin and Reach's story line doesnt fall the actual Halo story line. in the Book "The Fall of Reach" which was written before Halo 1, there is no Noble team, all of the spartans and Cortana are on the POA about to go on a secret mssion whne reach is hit, Red (Fred, Will, Kelly, Maria, and a bunch of others) go planet side while John, Kinda, and James go onto a spacedock where a yacht never destroyed its nav database (per the Cole Protocal) and still has the location of Earth on it.
Halo's gotta have the most massive Science Fiction plot since Star Wars! Thing is that in this story they had to take many more things into account in order to have it add up to reality so seemlessly.
"All I need to know, Cortana, is 'Did we lose them?'" -"I think we both know the answer to that." "We made a blind jump. How did they -" -"Get here first? The Covenant ships have always been faster..." How does this have ANYTHING to do with Noble Six/Noble Team? It doesn't. Last I checked, Noble Six, and the SPARTANs of Noble Team aren't Covenant ships...
They're not master chief had no knowledge of team noble most likely, this game begins with the fall of humanities military might. The scrambling of the coordinates for earth through master chief, and well you know the rest. Honestly as a chemist I always saw this as a great depiction of humanities first real attempt to fight a K2 civilization. Masterfully done, the reach storyline was always the backdrop for the tone of utter desperation. It's all too clear when Keyes initiates the Cole protocol
I think that it was a good move to end Halo with Reach. I mean, it's the first thing mentioned in the first Halo game! The series just makes a full circle and wraps everything nicely.
@pivotproductionsX Don't think so. I think it was more like 'Ah crap, we still owe Microsoft one more Halo game, but the war is over!' 'No problem, we'll just make a game about what happened before Halo CE'. It's just that Bungie took everything into account by letting them mention 'Reach' and 'An old friend'. As in 'there is a story behind all this'. Which musta been a relief when they figured that their only remaining option was to make a prequel.
@ZER0EVO Off you go then! I mean, good GOD man what are you doing wasting your time here? Go lock yourself in a room and scream at other 12 year olds!! They're USELESS without your input! Have fun!!!!!1!1!one!
I went here cuz I was confused as to what armor he wears. I have an add on campaign pack for halo custom edition and in that the chief wears mark 6 armor. Good to have that cleared up. That was driving me nuts.
@Phonix96 Well it's very complicated. The Master Chief isn't necessarily the last Spartan remaining. He was thought to be the only one who survived the battle of Reach. All of the Spartan-III's were eliminated during the Defense and Fall of Reach. The remaining Spartans, Dr. Halsey, and Chief Mendez are stuck in the Forerunner Shield World of Onyx.
@garzilla420 They're only talking about the covenant fleet (the fleet of particular justice) that were orbiting Reach (under the command of Thel' Vadamee) that pursued the Autumn (after Noble 6 sacrificed himself for the Autumn) and how they managed to beat the Autumn to Halo.
Damn this brings back memories. I made a review of this game as I got a review sample from MS way back in the day when I was mostly a noob at everything in life and just a teenager. It's actually still on there to this day with crappy res screenshots which I thought was the bomb at the time. I kinda want to load it up and play it through again for shits and giggles.
How is he referring to Six? Read the books too, guys, he was concerned since the covenant can track through Slipspace (which is how they glassed Reach and most of the Outer Colonies, and found Earth). And he also made the random jump (led them to Halo) in compliance with the Cole Protocol, and made sure no Covies followed so they could get to Earth and rendezvous with the fleet.
I disagree. That remaster looked ugly in a lot of moments and especially butchered the introduction to the Flood. The original version holds up very well. I think Halo 2’s Anniversary edition was the one that made a lot of graphical improvements to the original.
Actually, i think the storyline that was in place before, that actually made sense and had a was chronologically possible, and was referenced as the correct timeline in Halo Wars by Bungie through the blackboxes, trumps Halo: Reach. The story of Halo: Reach would not possibly fit into any sort of existant timeline, because that means the Spartan III's were already active and would therefor be deployed everywhere else in the universe, so Master Chief wouldn't be "The last spartan" all series long
Strange enough that almost 10 years after Halo: CE, when saying ''Did we lose them'' in Reach and in this intro, he was talking in fact about the Noble Team.
I can't believe they deleted Sergeant Johnsons speech in the remaster and re wrote it for the snow flake generation! I was 3 years old when I played this game and this game was everything.
@jimmyjameselvin I meant as, nobody really knew that they were even there. They didn't get the credits, not any. But they did later on get the praise of the entire Human race and more.
@HaloReachKid117 actually, at the end of halo reach, you're actually helping 'em escape, so at the end, it shows this cutscene, except with epic graphics.
Ahh yes, I havent gotten around to reading it either. Perhaps it will re-open the plot holes, or perhaps set-up some grand explanation for a sudden twist in Halo 4 :P
@Phonix96 They all died trying to get Cortana (The Package) to The Pillar of Autumn....Noble Six was the last Spartan on Reach until he/she died by 3 covenants....Then we were down to the Chief....who saved the world...
@Phonix96 They died, and dissapeard. If you have ever played halo wars, you would see that there are MANY spartans. And Master Chief was the only one who made it. His real name is John, and his spartan name is 117.
@B0BBARKER444 well it is cannon which doesn't effect the rest of the universe at all but it just isn't that interesting and more could have been done with it like a better explanation of Noble team's creation and purpose since they are seperate from the rest of the SPARTAN III program
@thamastachief wrong again, its half bungie and half 343, the whole point of relesing it was to help with the hand over of the title, thats why the Halo 1 relese, entirly made by 343, looks identical to reach.
@darkmankill1 Um... no. Halo 4 was revealed at E3 yes, but I was not wrong. They also revealed the HD re-make of Halo: Combat Evolved (the original game). Think, and read, before being a jerk on the internet. You always get caught out.
@WakoKevin Its Cortana, and she says that because she's known him since before Reach. Not only is she based on Dr Halsey, but she also chose him personally (as she says at the start of Halo 3) - and she asks if he missed her because he'd been in cyro sleep until the start of Halo 1.
Knowing Bungie I doubt they'd make a movie about the cheif, I'm pretty sure it'd be set before the fall of reach, in one of the first books about the first contact with the covenant and the glossing of the outer worlds.
@WakoKevin It's right what MisterXBob said. And Chief was at Reach during the battle, just serving in a different team than Noble. He was the only spartan in his team surviving their mission, and returned to the Pillar of Atumn where he was put in cyro sleep.
@MisterXBob they aren't talking about any spartans here. They're talking about the fact that the Covenant were already at Halo before the Autumn even fell out of slip space. "Get here first? The Covenant ships have always been faster..."
@LilHalfHaitiBoy ACtually Halo:Reach must have been an alternate universe because there was no Noble Team on Reach. Spartan IIIs were not on Reach when it fell. The game Halo:Reach is over 90& inaccurate
Thats true, but i thought they solved that plot hole in Ghosts of Onyx when the other Spartans got trapped inside the slipspace portal in the center of the planet? I mean, technically they're still alive, but as far as we know, they're stuck there, leaving Master Chief as, effectively, the last Spartan.
