We've been using a Halo GPS collar on our farm/homestead for quite some time, and here is what we've found. #halocolar #farmlife #farmdog #farmdogs #gpscollar #halo #dogcollar #dogcollars #halodog #homesteading #homestead
Love this video, it was exactly what I was looking for to learn about the product I really want to buy. Now I really know that I want to buy this product.

I have an large area too. Did you have to walk them over the whole area to show them the boundary or did they learn from just a few close boundary points?
I loved your review and I'm seriously thinking of getting collars for my two Border Collie/Ausie mix pups. My concern is that I have limited Cell service around our property. We have Wi Fi but it also is limited after 200ft of our house. How well will this work for my situation?
I found the Halo collar a very poor product. I bought a collar back in late 2020. Had multiple issues with it not working. Returned for a refund. This all took about a year to send it in multiple times and then to get the refund. In late November of 2021 they came out with an updated version. Claimed they had fixed all the issues. I applied my refund for the new collar. Upon receiving the new collar the same issues persisted. My dog would get beeps and corrections when no where near the boundaries. Corrections and beeps would be delayed. There was no consistency. I would not count on these collars to completely safeguard your dog. The quality is not there. Might as well spend the $ on fencing or an underground dog fence.
👏👍🏽Bravo… very informative and Great Review of the collar. We have an invisible fence up, had a Husky that blew right through it. Now we have an extremely Rambunctious Belgian Malinois which, we don’t want to chance it. Being that you have 3 Rottweilers and they are categorized as “aggressive” dog breed like ours….. we are soooooo comfortable and confident with your review to giving Halo2 Dog Collar a shot on our Belgian Malinois!
Which plan do you have that give all the notifications you receive? I see there are 3- basic, silver, and gold plans. I'm not willing to pay 30 a month but I'm curious if the extra 5.50 for the silver plan is worth paying
They warn us not to wear our cell phones against our bodies, yet we selfishly strap these collars on animals since what, they're just animals? Most people running a ranch or farm get rid of useless dogs that can't be trained. They strrap those same type of collars on wild animals inhibiting their natural instincts and putting them in danger. A mountain lion was hunted and shot in the neck. It was collared and the bullet hit the battery which blew up on the neck causing pain and burned the neck badl. The hunter wanted to quickly put the fire out to save the pelt. But the cougar suffered a horrible death. All in the name of science, so they can track the animals. It's inhumane and these huge unnatural collars are also inhumane. They could get caught on a fence, grabbed and held by a predator and so on. When these collars fall off the batteries are poisonous to the environment and usually never found or retrieved at all. I would say no to those collars and just get a better dog.
Great video! We are moving into a house with just over an acre (so not quite what you're dealing with), but It will be great for our dogs. We recently spent $15,000 on our current fence but didn't plan on moving. To install a vinyl fence on the new property would be gaudy and ruin the space. Not to mention it would cost around $25,000. One of our dogs is blind and the other is a full chocolate lab- very smart but head strong. Both are almost 2 yrs old. Anyhow, I never thought to use just one collar to control both dogs. Do you find that it still works? Any issues with the new pup? I guess the other issue is that we would only be able to see one of the dogs on the app. That might be a little disconcerting I suppose.
To have the collar working, am I required to subscribe to a plan or will this work just as well without a plan subscription? Also, how big of an area will it cover? We have about 2 acres and I'm curious if this will cover the complete area. This is such a great informative video!! Thank you for your work.
Yes you need to subscribe the smallest plan is 10.00 a month but u need that so the cellular service will work. I live on 25 acres and actually have 23 acres fenced. Could do more but don't want dog in part of the woods so yes it will cover whatever u fence from a small lot to over 50plus acres. It's all up to what u fence.
Hi There, great review. Thank you. Question: Would HALO let the dog comes back in without a shock if for some reason they are coming from the other side of the line (coming from the side she is not supposed to be)? Reason: We have a GSP that gets tense when she is on to something. At this particular time she seems to be oblivious to anything else including feel. - Thanks you!
Thanks for the review! I've got about a 50 acre area and originally I was super excited to try the Halo collar for my 22lb beagle mix. However, based on the collar you showed, even on the smallest collar they offer it seems likely the gps/cellular equipment would be laughably oversized and bulky on a small dog. Would you still consider Halo if your dogs were 22 lbs?
I just ordered yesterday, similar situation! We’ve got border collies and Great Pyrenees that need full access to the property to follow our girls around and to keep predators at bay! Probably about 85% fenced of 14 acres however some is wooded and over 400’ of lake frontage! Hoping putting this collar on our “lead wanderer” Will fix the visiting the neighbors issue 😂
My son has 2 young border collies and the lead dog has started to jump his fence and he wanted to give them more freedom on his 18 acres too. I would love to hear your feedback on a border collie and on a Great Pyrenees as I would love to have a Pyrenees on my 50 acres across the street but know that they roam and are hard to contain.
Thanks for this... we live on 75 acres and our Lab has decided he likes to visit the neighboring ranches. He has gotten a good 5-6 miles away - he knows if he moves fast he will be beyond range and won't get corrected by the Dogtra collar when I realize he is gone on walkabout. I dont have tracking on this collars so it turns into a guessing game! I am hoping Halo is a good option, seems like it. We have really crappy cell service so I am concerned about how accurate the corrections are since there is a lag on the tracking when depending on connectivity, up to 15 seconds.
Don’t buy the Halo collar. It will go off on your pet while it is in bounds giving your precious pet false readings. Believe this. I’ve been back and forth with Halo company and tried several things they suggested with me prevail
@@TopRealtor333 Let me explain about Halo. My first collar the post broke so they sent me another. The one they sent me kept, after many trials, would loose gps and show her way out of bounds BUT they never gave up and ended up sending out another one and it has NEVER failed once in the last 8 months. The one thing I can say about Halo is they are continually making up grades to their collars. This shows me that they are a company that is staying on top of their product. So as for the Spot on collar I couldn’t comment on but I would save the money and go with Halo. There have been some bad comments on the customer service but they take every complaint or bad comment and work on making it better. This says a lot about a company. 5 + stars in my book. Hope this helps!
I also live on a large property. We have problems with fox. We also breed great danes and needed something we could let a dane run to protect the ducks and chickens and still be able to get into the cattle pasture to run off a fox. We got the halo and it has been a game changer. Couldn't be more happy with out outcome. We have only had it 2mos and it's currently winter can't wait for summer. We have only used on one of our Danes so far as we have had to adjust the fences several times during hunting season and have just figured out what fence is best long-term. So now that I think it's set. I can't wait to see how fast she learns and if we can also use on the others.
Did you let the dog figure out the boundaries on its own or were you actively involved in training him? (I’m new to this type of collar, but I do already own a Halo.$
Just got our Halo in the mail today. Looking forward to trying it in Manitoba Canada. We have a 1 year old pyrenees x lab, who likes to chase cars driving by the farm. 🤞🤞
My Pyrenees has been getting out & couldn't figure out how but today I found him on top of the garage roof and he jumped down to get out !!! He either climbed the tree in the fenced area or climbed an 8' fence to get on the roof.... I need something else just in case to keep him on the farm....
Hey thanks for all the info you gave it's much appreciated. I have six dogs and two of our boys we need to keep separated can two different areas be set up for a situation like that?
I have had a horrible time contacting customer service. I bought the collar online and tried to cancel the order two hours later. After 5 days, I still have not had a credit on my card and they are telling me that the collar could not be canceled as it was coming from overseas. My advice is to stay far away from Halo.
Appreciate the video., very detailed Thank you for taking time. I had a Rottie/shepherd mix I got from dog rescue, his name there was Roscoe., I change it to Nakia. I taught him over 200 commands. Best dog I ever owned. I lost him 5-1/2 years ago. He was 14. I told him to meet me at heavens gates before he took his last breath. I miss him so much. He actually was brought up to Connecticut from Tennessee. I feel privileged to have had him as my baby. I now have a purebred German shepherd hes 5-1/2 years, born 2 weeks prior to loosing nakia. I got him from Georgia., did a road trip. He is no where’s as smart as my previous dog. He’s 119 lb, good boy very protective. I have farms all around me and numerous wild animals. Im interested in the collar for the simple reason if he ever did get past the fence line. That I could be brought to where ever he is/collar. He is chipped ., that has limitations. Not all people return a lost dog to their owners. Especially if they want that kind if dog or is a good dog. Some even try to resell your dog. Hoping that this collar can take the worry out of those kind of scenarios. Does the app actually tell you how close/far you are away from them. What is that distance? Thank you for your time. Again, thanks for the video and information. Not surprised Caesar came up with this great collar. ❤️
My barns and house all have metal roofs and yes when the dog goes in the barn the signal says she's at the door. However I know she's in the back corner cuz that's where she hangs out. But as soon as she leaves the barn I would says within 30sec or so it has picked right back up.
It shouldn't have any issues your cell phone doesn't have. When our dog is inside a metal building, for example, where cell and satellite signals are blocked, it shows him there, but that it's unconfirmed. I have a wifi extender now, too, that covers a large area outside, so that helps as well, since the collar also uses wifi.
I'm thinking about getting one for my cane corso how does it work under heavy tree coverage? I see you have it in a treeline does it loose signal when the trees are full of leaves? Thanks
I haven't noticed a difference with the tree cover. Our property backs up to a state park which is all woods. And we allow the dogs to go into the woods a Lil bit because there's a creek they love to play in. I still get notifications if she's getting too close to her boundaries.
Thanks for the honest review. Experience with the collar seems to be varied. Many say the collar is junk, others say it’s a game changer. We’ve had a ton of snow where I live, and it’s so deep that it was nearly to the top of my fence. I have two Malamutes and one of them figured out that he could now step right over the fence. I had to dig a “dog moat” along 2.25 acres of fence to prevent him from just stepping over the fence. That worked for a while, but he has now figured out that he can still get over it. Long story short, I now can’t leave him unattended outside. Your review has made mean lean towards trying the collar, but, I have a metal roof on my house and I’ve read that will prevent the app from working. Now I’m back to square one and unsure if it will work for me.
You will love the halo. I was also worried about all the mixed reviews. So I found our collar on Facebook market place. To try at a cheaper price before I bought a new one. We breed Danes and it works amazing.
