13:03 Can we talk about how excited Fernando was to follow Chief into battle, compared to how scared he was at the start of the game? Amazing character growth.
He witnessed the Master Chief just do it again, seeing is believing. Chief went into a banished stronghold and fought the best the banished had to offer to rescue him.
I think it kinda shows the hope he inspires in others, as his relationship helps fernando grow as a person and become even happier because he doesnt feel helpless anymore
Personally I like this ending. because I honestly didn't want to fight Cortana. I love how she understood her mistakes and redeemed herself for it. Honestly made me tear up.
@@spidercrafter3088 at the end of the day she sacrificed herself, doesn’t really matter what she did in the past or what she deserves, same kinda situation with darth Vader
@@spidercrafter3088 She is like guilty spark, driven mad, and that SOB came back in 3 after you destroyed him in CE. I thought Mass Effect 3 had poor writing resulting in a dismal failure ending, here comes 343 with Halo infinite, hold my beer, gonna milk this cow like gears of war
I loved this game. I know a lot of people don’t like the humanizing of chief, but I love it. Cortanas last goodbye just hits hard, even if there are some blanks
Which is funny because if you look at Bungie interviews their original intent was for the player to put themselves in chiefs shoes and believe they were the ones plugging in cortana or saying badass one liners with Johnson, that’s why people don’t like it. Still the ❄️’s nowadays want chief to be some father figure or something
@Michael Kiely His a soldier fighting in the great culture war, the sjw's vs the anti-sjw's a true battle of legends. I suggest you just sit back and watch them tear each other apart.
@@renzmanzano4010 I’m just here for a good halo game. I liked infinite so I’m not complaining. The thing about sjw and Anti Sjw is they both don’t know how to have fun.
“This isn’t an end, it’s a chance to make amends to rectify mistakes and it starts here” beautifully said and it feels like it’s 343 admitted they were wrong and apologized promising to bring it back. I loved this game and I’m excited for the future.
Y’know, the moment they said atriox was dead, me and my friend were like, “nah, I don’t believe that, this dude probably gonna show up at the very end.”
@@trooperodst6880 tbh I’m very happy. He’s a pretty sweet character and I think this was a bit of a joke at them killing halo 4’s big bad jul at the beginning of halo 5 as well permanently
I love the final goodbye with cortana I wish they kinda put flash backs of what they did in the past games as she said her goodbyes but i can’t complain it really shows cherish what you got and there’s no I in team
There’s going to be dlcs to fill in the small gaps we don’t understand fully, they gave us an idea of what exactly happened and i’m happy they did that it keeps the viewer and the lore community as a whole curious, interested and keep us theorizing
@@loganmoody5866 aw look guys a bungie keyboard warrior ur only saying this cause it’s 343 this storyline is great u probabably just skimmed through it and missed out on huge details not to mention we’re only in part 1 of the story so respectfully just leave the halo community if you really hate it that much
He allowed it, I agree with that. But he's such a warrior due to his upbringing in the spartan 2 program he doesn't know how to show affection yet 😅 but he's almost there
it makes it even more interesting when you notice how the weapon and pilot are both rather jovial compared to him , which may or may not affect him down the line
The whole game has Redemption and Making Amends as a huge theme in many ways. You got Chief trying to make up for his failures. You got Fernando making up for his lack of fight by building up a newfound courage. And there's even an arc of Chief making amends to The Weapon after trying to delete her. Even the antagonists are trying to reform a broken ring.
@@conner4385 She never refers to herself as the Endless. I had the idea that it's just the flood. She wants everything the forerunners didn't. So I assume she wants to bring the flood back.
One thing I love is the almost daughter father dynamic that the weapon and chief have. The weapon was brought into a crazy world that chief lives and had to learn how he works and how all this happens. She really grows even with her child like personality. And I feel like the ending was Cortana almost recognizing that she would be a better version of her. Saying that they had to learn from her as she walked away for the final time. Truly gone forever. Almost like the weapon is Cortana's daughter too. Her successor as she passes the torch to her. It was a really beautiful moment for both Cortana owning up to her mistakes and chief realizing that he does have to protect this child, the weapon with everything he has to make sure that she doesn't go rogue like Cortana. Beautiful emotion. And just a masterpiece, truly among the original trilogy in terms of story.
The Weapon isn't even really a true copy either: if that were the case, she would've been copied directly from Cortana herself. She's her own AI created by Halsey replicating the process that had originally created Cortana. THAT'S why she needed those cryobins in Shadows of Reach: they must've contained Halsey's remaining cloned brains from creating Cortana. She would've needed that in order to create the Weapon.
Fighting through Sentinels and Banished, hearing all the whispers from Cortana and the memory echos, hit so damn hard. Hearing Keyes and the mention of Lord Hood was also pretty cool. But her goodbye, even after hearing it a second time, felt more real this time. I was fighting through the last mission and constantly having to put my controller down every time I heard previous lines of Cortana's dialogue. The nostalgia was just too much. I thoroughly enjoyed this game and can't wait for the story expansions.
One detail I love is how Chief calls Esparza "Soldier". It lets you see how much he's grown. From a scared engineer that stole a pelican to a pilot, the reason Master chief was able to take down the banished.
14:03 the very first time I played this and heard the halo 2 theme play, I was blown away with goosebumps and was filled with excitement knowing damn well that things are gonna get a whole lot more interesting! 🔥
Chief - "you get to choose your name" The Weapon - "You sure?" Chief "Yes" The weapon - "Then I think I have the perfect one" The weapon - "Siri" Chief "RED FLAG!"
Can’t believe no one is pointing out how Echo-216 hugs Chief in a reverse way of Johnson and the Elite in the CE Legendary ending. He puts his hand on his ass then moves it up to his back.
Going through the stages of grief right now and I'm still in denial of Cortana's death. To grow up with her for 20 years and have her say goodbye just like that... It's gonna ba hard to replay the original trilogy, knowing what becomes of her.
Fun fact about the name Esparza: his name is very similar to 2 peculiar spanish words/names: Esparta and Esperanza, both meaning Sparta and Hope respectively. Idk who thought of his name but that dude deserves a raise.
I just finished this story. Wow I had insane chills and a bit teary eyed from that cortana scene. I loved the weapon and chief’s chemistry as the story went. The gameplay with the missions was also amazing. And the open world aspect added so much I love it.
@@fotisthomos5939 probably back before the firing of the rings. If you look at the Legendary ending it will display the date and it was actually pretty far in the past where the Forerunners are still alive. You'll also get more context, but I'm excited to see how this goes
There something that confirms he went back in time? Im under the impression he went foward. A small thing backing this up would be chief jumping into that portal, ending up on the other side of the ring *3 days* later. If he really went back in time this story's gonna go off the rails real quick. I could buy the endless skipping thru time, it'd explain how they can "survive" a halo, but not outright time travel 🤣
@@mfspectacular that actually makes sense, as the harbinger “teleports” she’s just skipping time and the endless surviving the rings by skipping time. Going back in time is always bad news as it creates paradoxes and anything can go which usually don’t which doesn’t make sense in most cases. But maybe the endless are capable of going back in time since the isodidact says time cannot be allowed to be something they can control, which may imply going back and forth in time. I don’t mind if the time skips aren’t like years
That last 'Get Ready' keeps giving me goosebumps every time I watch this. No matter how many times I have played the campaign, I'll never skip this. Well done 343... perfectly perfect.
I just finished this last night on Legendary. This ending brought such a flood of nostalgia to me, thinking back to all the years of me playing Halo and following the story since the CE days. Cortana’s final speech really hit me hard 😭😭😭😭
I was 5 when halo came out, and it was my first game ever. So sad to see cortana go ): big part of my childhood was playing halo and seeing chief and cortana together
At 6:01, when she goes, there is "something else here", you can hear the terror in her voice. It is amazing voice acting, and genuine terror that there is something else here that she cannot tackle. And right after, "Something's helping me...". There is apprehension, but genuine relief as well. And we find out in the legendary ending, what was helping her. This is an iconic moment.
If only we got the answers to the Ending hinting Offensive Bias, it sucks how only now that ai gets introduced into the games despite how significant its importance was in the story
@@I_dcd Have to wonder, what what Offensive's plan here, sending Chief a few weeks forward in time? He's a Contender, so it'd be very weird if he had missed at all due to time dilation.
This is perfect ending, story is so good damn, just finished the game and i love the story. Final good bye to cortana and chief got new child to protect included new friend pilot. This story is so good AF damn
@@fusingentree3928 Absolutely not, just because Cortana is “good” again doesn’t mean they fixed it. What, all of the sudden she’s just learned from her mistakes. Okay bud
@@skinfluithero4885 They did, she was always nice to John and like John said death changes us. Cortana already pased AI life because AI live 7 years cortana lived 8 and now its finaly gone. Story is so good and amazing
Yeah the next Halo is gonna be primarily Flood, it has to be. Zeta Halo is like known for it’s flood infestation. Mendicant Bias and the Primordial are plotting their return, and Atriox might help out with that.
Oh how i Love Halo. This for me was what Halo 5 should've been. It answered all my questions about Cortana and showed Chiefs emotional side. 100% loved it. Bring on story dlc please. I see Halo 7 is not coming anytime soon. So please more story dlc.
I've been rewatching the last echo of Cortana countless of times and it still hits hard. So hard that no matter how many times I come back to re-watch it, no matter how many times I can't stop watching it. It still bring me to tears that this is the last time we'll see Cortana even though may acted as the villainy from Halo 5 and in Infinite in how she destroyed the UNSC and also the universe. But also the A.I who stood with Master Chief from the start. Like what she said "Perfectly suited. Perfectly matched. Perfectly perfect.
Lol nah the story is pretty dumb. So is that dialogue. I can imagine in the writing room... "Perfectly suited... What else means the same thing? Matched? Okay kool... What else? Gee uhhh... Perfectly uhhhhhh perfect I guess? Sure write it in lol. Also lame to hear chief say crap he said from halo 2 like "I need a weapon" and "finish this fight". Fight is never finished is it? Of course not. Gotta wallet rape with the dlc lol.
Cannot wait to finally smash Atriox’s face in… It was a very emotional campaign for me. Cortana wasn’t just am AI to me, to Chief. She was our friend… without her none of what we have accomplished playing as Master Chief would be possible. Nor without the Chief of course. I started this campaign with Halo Combat Evolved on PC. I was only a kid, maybe 12 or 13. I am 29 now. She meant a lot. Seeing go was hard. But sacrafices must be made for the greater good of humanity. John understood that very well.
I got my start with the PC port of Halo CE, too. Nothing quite hits as hard as watching her die in 4, but her goodbye here was a worthwhile sendoff to the last traces of her character, and it does a beautiful job of passing the torch to the Weapon.
I somehow feel like I’ve played Halo 7. The story was great and well put together but it just felt like we’ve missed much of the story(yes its explained in-game via the logs and short videos). Halo 4 and 5 had its flaws but in my opinion the story was quite good, also they ended 5 with a cliffhanger of being the biggest enemy for the universe etc, and now starting in 6, Cortana is already dead, just felt like that book closed to quick for me. Just wish we could have played from 5 onwards. Nevertheless, well done to the team, it feels like a great game, well put together with amazing gameplay and a well put together story, just feels like 7 to me 😄
No, id rather not know anything more about 5 or expand on that dogshit game and its "story". Its a soft reboot that seperates itself from 5 and I'll take it.
I understand why they did that. People were so harsh on them for making Cortana evil (I didn’t like it like most people) 343 probably wanted to skip that whole part as soon as possible. That’s why they didn’t make a game where you had to fight an evil Cortana and gave her a ‘warm’ goodbye in Infinite. Good decision imo.
Did anyone else have the most annoying time taking out the final chieftain? was looping the room for ages chewing through all sorts of weapons before he finally died - heroic
@@GuyAfro3000 I fought him on legendary; it actually wasn’t too bad tbh, but that was after countless hours on other bosses and stress lmfao. The first half is difficult because he shoots at you, but when he switches to his grav hammer it honestly makes it easier. All I did was swing back and forth on each side with the grapple in the main room and just shot him from a distance. Did it in my 3rd try lol nah the two brute chieftains after you destroy the AAs took forever for me to kill. I kept getting blasted by the one with the cannon from a distance and then the other on the chopper would just snipe me with it lmfao.
This game was clearly a way to reset the story in a better direction. Halo 4 actually had a good story, Halo 5's story was trash. 343 definitely recognized that 5 put the story in a bad spot and decided in Infinite to tie up (some) of the loose ends from 5. Leaves some questions open though--maybe these were answered by books and comics. First question is: where did the guardians go? Second question is: what happened to all of the AI? Third question is: So, what about the prometheans, are they just not going to be a faction anymore? Also, this wasn't clear to me, though maybe it was to others, why would Atriox want control of the ring? I get that it has secrets but did he want to fire it? I thought that would kill all life? I caveat this by saying I haven't been into the Halo lore for several years since adulting took over.
I think Atriox wanted to have the most powerful weapon ever known in his power but when Cortana destroyed his planet, it probably became even more about life actually. A lot of Brutes in the game talk about how much they miss their home planet. The only way to get their home planet back is to time travel. That is exactly what the Endless are capable of.
Halo is the ultimate Superweapon, and Zeta Halo has the Endless who have an odd connection to time. Atriox could use them to restore his home and then use the Halo to basically point a gun at the head of the universe.
Zeta Halo is special in more ways than one. One of these ways is that it is the last ring from the original 12 ring array . These Rings were larger (30km in diameter) and could not only fire omnidirectionally but also in a beam pattern(point and shoot) So with Zeta one could choose what to kill. And that is the least interesting thing about this ring. It has a much deeper history
The one thing I want to know is... what happened to the guardians? Did the weapon sent a signal to make them self destruct. Is the created still active?
I got one more idea of an extra level. It's actually set up as campaign forge. The master Chief captured and reprogrammed a special monitor. It is placed at a special human controlled outpost. It's mission is to set up the base for a plausable attack from the banished or so forth. There would even be a place where you choose the attacking enemy. From the banished, to the flood, the eternals, or invent your own faction. Like chief master (evil master Chief counterpart) leader of the csnu. Zombie Spartans (from the infection games). King Forkey, leader of the living forklifts. Or giant living dolls. Or gun shooting blocks (that you can change their shape in forge).
We all know chief was crying behind that mask because I know I would. Fighting together against covenants, floods, brutes, forerunners… since 2001. Them feels!
Locke deserved better. The fans didn’t what him to get a second chance though cuz they got insecure and afraid he was gonna replace Chief so they bullied him out of the franchise.
This ending gives me ideas for plausible expansion campaign. This almost resembles Halo wars 2. This first one where you play as a marine protecting a base. The other is where you play atreox who is dealing with a small flood outbreak. As I said before, infant seems to mirror Halo wars 2.
It hits us all hard cause we all grew up NEEDING a cortana in our life and it just hurts to see she sacrificed herself for him we’re all master chief in our story I didn’t expect this ending at all and it made me cry 😭
I somehow get the feeling, that it would have been awesome if just blue team were in the pelican with esperanza picking up chief. I mean they could have said they were more than a week away. However that would be a much more stronger cliffhanger though.
Bringing back Cortana at all, let alone making her a villain, was a mistake. Halo 4’s send off for her was beautiful. What they did in this game was try to course correct, and fix those mistakes. *Edit: While I understand this game comes across as a little weird, and rushed at times due to the course correction, I'm hopeful that in the long run it gets the story back on track. Though I still want them to follow up on stuff like the Flood, the Forerunners, and our boy the Didact. 343 cannot just let such an interesting villain's story end in a damn tie-in comic.
