For some time now I have been Chasing SOTA, POTA and WWFF Parks Awards.
Many of my Australian friends have made comment that i seem to hear them very well particularly on 40 mtrs.
This video records some of my recent QSO's to VK WWFF activators so you can hear what I am hearing..
The Receive Antenna is a Ground Loop approximately 52Mtrs long, going around my property.

Callum sounded really good! I recently built a LoG for myself and really like what it does for signal to noise on 40 and 75. Mine is only 15 foot a side not as large as yours and only use the preamp in the rig at the moment.

Separate receive antenna is a great asset to have for any ham radio operator. Thankfully the IC-7610 has the connectivity on the rear of radio.. Happy Christmas 🎄 to you and your Family Roly.

Absolutely true Robbie. I have modified my IC-7300 for a seperate Rx antenna. Very easy to do..... Happy Christmas 🎄 cheers

Lovely video Roly. What was the reason you didn't answer Calum's CQ. Even if I made the contact 20 min earlier, I make a quick call (unless they are working a pileup) , to let them know how propagation is working from their station. Happy Christmas Holiday, Ed

On my regular Transmit Antenna i could hear absolutely nothing. Tried both my dipole and DXCommander Vertical but not a thing. I could receive on the ground loop BUT only after switching in a 20dB preamp and then tailoring the audio with my audio mixer to get rid of all the high's and maximise for Cal's audio response.... @@ZL1BQDRoly I keep forgetting the variables and I default to something my father often said, "if I can hear them, I can work them." But he only operated on vhf/uhf am and ssb.

Are you transmitting and receiving on the loop? I only have 1 input on my radio icom ic-718. How would it hook up with one input and separate receiving and transmit?

Hi, great video. I am new very new.. dont have my radio yet, but looking at Yaesu FT-450D - I have a postage stamp of a garden and can only really mount a antenna to my chimmy pot. its a bunglaow so not so high. what would u recommend?anyone can come back to me.

Welcome to the fascinating world of Ham Radio. I am sure others will chime in and help you. Join a local club would be a good idea. You will probably end up with some sort of vertical antenna. If you confine yourself to 20mtrs and higher now that the bands are performing quite well you will be able to work some very good DX on relatively small antennas. Cheers
