I use 3 PLTs (cheap d link ones £25) and they cause absolutely no additional noise here. Perhaps it was the older models that caused the problems and the manufacturers got their acts together?
+Amateur Radio Guy! Spot on. It seems that the 1st generation may have caused a lot of issues, but these ones I have are really very good. More tests to do however. Speak soon. Dan
Er, excuse me. How much data was transferring when you tested? They're obviously not going to make much interference when you're not transferring any data. Also not clear how you claimed you had switched both of them off with the click of a single switch?
Hi Dan I tested a pair that talk talk supply and they produced noise outside the Ham bands. I have a few I can hear around here but the Ham Bands are notched and when not rx/txing data they are quiet. You did test yours when doing a large file transfer :) Cheers Paul m0pnn
+m0pnn Hi Paul, yes I've tested these whilst moving some large files from NAS to desktop and back etc. also did some tests with streaming etc. Noise levels remained constant throughout. Good to hear that you've tested another set, and that it really is dealers choice when choosing a pair. Thanks for the heads up. Dan
I have three telephones that run on PLT system (one base and two other handsets) and they have never caused any interference on HF or VHF/UHF. Well done for demonstrating though - a good review.
+Nigel Booth Hi Nigel - Thanks for the comment, you are spot on - I've noticed nothing on any of the HF, SWL bands thus far. I will be checking the VHF & UHF frequencies - but I'm pretty sure they will be the same.
Well done mate. It looks like you are in a "new build" house so maybe with the wiring being new it is not causing the dreaded noise. Will have to do the test here in this old house with wiring installed by Eddistone and Watt.....
+Chris Colclough Chris, if you want to borrow these, happy to post them up to you so you can try before you buy etc, send me a message via normal channels etc.
+charlieoscar09 Thanks for the comment. I will be testing a few more bands and doing an "out of band sweep" to see if the PLTs are notched etc, but so far so good ! Thanks for the feedback RE Camera - the Canon G7X is a superb little thing. Take Care - Dan.
+Alan Prince (The Armoured Farmer) Hi Alan, yes had some feedback from a couple of colleagues and they also haven't noticed any interference. so go ahead and try a pair. 73 Dan.
If you have a wooden house, there is no difficulty nailing an ethernet cable along the celing or door frames. A pair of Mikrotik routers with a directional antenna could transmit it wirelessly on an unlicensed low frequency.
I found exactly the same......no noise over the whole 1-30mhz spectrum. The power supply for my virgin media super hub router however, is horrendous!!! These small 'wall wart' type psu's are really bad for loading house wiring with interference and one or two in my house have found their way to the bin.
that because the newer plt devices have to notch out on the main ham bands to conform to new specs,,this does not seem to include warc and uk 27/81 cb bands,,,also there not notched out on shartwave,,try doing a vid listening o shortwave with the plt turned on,,it near impossible to hear anything ,,,ham that are getting noise from plt on ham band are using older units or bought out of spec rubbish off ebay etc......if you need more wifi range install a wifi repeater they work very well
Early units used did not notch out ham bands,,many of these can still be in use today,,newer unit it no a problem on ham bands,,but on shortwave and cb it's still a problem.,,,but does high power transmissions interfere with plt devices i wonder.
+Richard Dinerman Morning Richard, I haven't tested VHF / UHF - I simply don't use them. I can however test for you the impact on the 2 bands to show you the difference. 73 Dan
I ran on of these for 6 months when I had the shack in my garden shed, out of wifi range, this was before everyone started shouting about the interference. I have to say my findings were like yours, it made no difference.
