Ham Radio: Last weekend we tried to activate as many Connecticut parks at once as possible. Even though it rained all weekend (again) we still had fun and a successful activation

My wife and I are both hams and members of the Meriden ARC. We activated 3 parks that weekend but stayed in the truck. 73 N1XXU and K1PET.

To have easy access to the tip of the Jackite pole in the retracted position, attach a Key Ring to the tip. I also attach a short piece of 550 paracord to the key ring as something to tie to.

Next Tip: How to never loose the rubber top cap. Bolt a strip of Velcro across the top of the cap with legs long enough to come down the sides (abut 3") of the bottom tube Then, run a strip of Velcro around the upper part of the base tube in reach of the Velcro legs on the cap. When stored the cap will be secure. When deployed, you can Velcro the rubber cap to the side of the bottom tube.

SYP Weekend was alot of fun in CT. Looks to me like you got more of the rain than I did. I got out to my local park and activated on 10m. The farthest contact I had was P2P in the Dominican Republic. Great video, thanks for sharing your adventure from that weekend.

Great video! Did my first trip to Soapstone in the summer. You can get some serious 2m distance from that tower with a yagi and a few watts.

Great to see you. I thought of you when visiting my son & DiL last week in Greenwich & Oxford. We traveled through Florida on the way to fall foliage in New Hampshire. Incidentally the colors on the interstate in Massachusetts and Connecticut were more vibrant than NH. On one of our trips to Connecticut I would love to meet up at a park where you could guide this retired noob in POTA. All the best from north Texas. 73 de KI5HXM

Thanks for sharing Rob. One of these days I will POTA hunt you. I hope your notebook wasn’t damaged. I tried to revive a Chromebook a student spilled water into it. There was even water under the motherboard. It works plugged into power but the battery won’t charge. I did a video of it.
