Here is the story of my quick SOTA activation of 9420 peak in Hyde Memorial State Park just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Can a Connecticut "Flat Lander" activate a SOTA Peak in the Rockies? Watch the video to find out...

I’m not a ham, but I’m on GMRS, I am always telling my friends who are both Ham’s and GMRS here in New Mexico about your RU-vid channel.

SOTA is my next favorite thing next to POTA. Glad you were able to get this one done. Great video as always Rob.

Ohhh btw Rob. We always went to Red River, the song Red River Valley is about this area. It is a valley north of Taos in the mountains. It use to be an old gold mining place a long time ago. Now it is a vacation spot for families ! Lots to do there like horse back riding, trout fishing, hiking, many cool curio shops, rent motorcycles, many great restaurants, a video arcade etc. They also have ski lift that takes you to the top of the big mountain there with a large cleared area at the top to relax eat and have fun. Very scenic, very scenic Of course you are at the top, a free ride to the top where you can use your radio. We always stayed at the Ski View Hotel, large kitchen.

Great video Rob! I know you had fun activating a SOTA summit. Us “Low-Landers” have to rely on POTA for our activities!

hey Rob, saw this SOTA you did in Santa Fe, I looked up your call up on QRZ. I'm 2500 miles straight line from my QTH here in Klamath Falls, OR. I used to live in Newmarket, NH (my call used to be N1DHD) look me up on QRZ and use the map feature you will see it is a straight line across the country. My two Daughters are hams too, they still live in Rodchester, NH Annie is KB1WER and Paula is KC1ECN, Annie husband Michael is also a ham (N1AMD). I just moved here last July from Northern California (near Mt. Shasta, CA). I'm getting my station up here going to try to make contact with my kids on SSB on HF, Michael is a General class, & Annie and Paula are both Techs. 73's N6KV

That's pretty cool! Good old 42N latitude! I'll have to keep an ear out for those calls next time I'm in nh

Cool !!! I've been to Santa Fe, Taos and Red River for vacations all of my life ! Love that area. Have you seen Kit Carson house? You should see the St. Joseph's spiral staircase. It is incredible and has a fascinating story behind it. I've been there and your family will really enjoy it. There is a short video on it on youtube !!! Definitely go to the Rio Grande gorge ... huge and quite scenic especially the bridge outside of Taos that goes across the gorge.

Congrats on ur SOTA. Don’t forget to go and eat at Tomisita’s. Be sure to order it Christmas (both red and green chili sauce). My trips to Santa Fe aren’t complete without a chili relleno from there. Enjoy!

Thanks Rob for another great video. I'm a newer Ham and just came aware of another cool part of ham radio. I just got my first HT radio and your video with SOTA inspires me. I'm going to program it and try 2 meters. KC1MST 73

That is so cool!!! Exactly the kind of stuff I want to do on my GS around New Mexico. BTW....I live just a couple miles south of Rio Rancho, in Albuquerque, so that made it even more fun for me personally. This video had a lot of suspense in it, as we waited to see if you'd get that fourth contact. Glad you did....that was Awesome!! And now I've learned that you can do SOTA with an HT. I have so much to learn!!! Great video......73....KE4YRX

I don't know what SOTA activation is, but this is so sweet. Such good clean fun. I also love that your wife's art & channel is front and center in your descriptions. Good human. Could I ask what mic you use on your Canon M50? (I didn't see it in your influencer section on your Amazon store). ✌️

Great video ,, glad you made it official 👍 And don’t feel bad for being short winded , when I was in Colorado 2 weeks ago at almost 5,000 feet above sea level , I needed an oxygen tank strapped to my back when we were out at a state park , good Lord the air is thin !! What was the elevation there ?
@SevenFortyOne
@SevenFortyOne 3 года назад
It was 7,000 feet in town and that peak was 9400 feet. I'm used to 1000 feet and under here in ct!

@@SevenFortyOne Wow ,, I’ve never been that high ,, well unless you count the Colorado candy I ate just that one day 😂😂😂,, but for real ,, 10K feet , that’s nosebleed level for me . I would t make it on a jog there . I don’t even know how cars run efficiently,, our Nissan lost about 6 mpg out there , no joke ! Great video Rob ,, I’m gonna catch some sleep , thank God I’m off this weekend . Just one more shift 👍

@@Dallas-Rife-UDX-347-Tennessee Yeah - get some rest! We weren't far from Colorado in Northern New Mexico. And since I work indirectly for NASA, this is the only high I'm allowed to partake in :) I sure was sucking wind hiking up that hill though. I never realized how much of a difference altitude makes.

Mostly because I'm not a cw operator. Adam is a great inspiration to ham radio but if we all did the same thing the hobby would become boring.
