Contesting (also known as radiosport) is a competitive activity pursued by amateur radio operators. This is how I setup and run my station in the recent Remembrance Day contest - a 24 hour long contest that requires skill, endurance and patience amongst other things!

You dont need a second adapter, just do what i do and make a breakout box going into the acc on the back of both radios and run it all thru a mixing board. You can see it in action on my channel. Ive got my 7300 amd 705 running off the same mike and going to the same speakers off of the mixing board and then i have a foot switch for each radio, plan on puting a second ptt spot on the breakout box for both to have a hand switch for both as well soon.

Kudos to you for participating in the comp. I wasn't able to tune in much but a great result for you so it was worth it. Very interesting info about mountain bounce, who knew that was a thing!? 😮👍

Watching your streams and listening into this competition has really convinced me that I need to start working on getting my licence and exploring some more of the radio world. I inherited a Codan HF radio a couple months back that has been sitting in a cupboard for ages not being used, so on the Saturday I dragged that outside, threw the single emergency antenna I have up a tree in the backyard and started scanning, and was amazed at how many people I could hear calling for the comp. Has really inspired me.

Hayden was, and continues to be, a great source of information for me too, both as someone who was studying for the FCC exam, and as someone who has since passed the exam and been a licensed operator for just under a month now. Best advice, if you’re thinking about getting your license, don’t wait. Just do it.

Australia needs one of our equipment suppliers to step up and stock Messi & Paoloni products. Such a shame RF Solutions don't sell it anymore. Great videos keep up the good work.

Great video and fantastic effort. I had limited time and only got 100 QSO in the log. I still had great fun, even if only for a few hours. It was good to have you return my CQ call and get into my log.

Thanks for another great video. I'm still waiting for my foundation license paperwork to be processed..... but I was able to listen in to the contest and really enjoyed hearing the wide range of geographic locations being worked. Keep up the good work, 73.

Congratulations Hayden, see you won the Single Operator Phone!, was a great contest and my first time operating 5w QRP SSB got 5th for that category with a pretty ordinary setup, might go for my advanced license by next year to have a few more options. Thanks for the great stream kept me going in the early hours.

Great to get you in the log twice Hayden. Were you using a foot switch or Vox for the mic? And any problems transmitting on one radio with the others on and connected to their antennas? 73
@HamRadioDX
@HamRadioDX Год назад
I was using a foot switch yes, connected via the Heil adapter. No problems with transmitting on one radio with the others sitting there - antennas are fairly well spaced out so no front end overload issues that I noticed.

I'm getting the Microwave bug; although I seem to see many You Tube channels that focus on the bands higher than 23cm (?). I thought since I and several Amateurs already have a current transceiver which has 23cm (IC-9700) I thought there would be more video's with a focus on starting with 23cm band rather than buying additional gear to get started with microwave. Does the 23cm band have a major downside? Also; as of today, I see ICOM may have a new horse in the race for microwave, an IC-905. Thanks!

GerDay Hayden, I enjoyed that last week. I wish we coulda made a contact, but brown stuff happens. I’m listening from the start as I type, so I dunno if you’ll cover this stuff. I have a question…..what software do you use for streaming. I’ve grabbed OBS for Linux, but it’s a bloody steep learning curve for me!!!!!
@HamRadioDX
@HamRadioDX Год назад
Hey mate yeah OBS for Windows streaming contests and the radio.

@@HamRadioDX I just gotta learn how to set it up. (At least the Linux version) uses terms that probably make a lot of sense to graphical people, but not so much to truckies!!!! My guess is the “scenes” is where you congregate feed sources (video, screen shots, screen activity and, perhaps, I dunno, Zoom windows or whatever) and then you switch them into the main screen, either as stand alone, tiled, nested tiles or Picture in Picture or whatever. Certainly for general video sources I’m guessing this to be the case, but not sure if each “scene” should have its own audio source, or whether to loop them all back through a mixer so you can fade them in and out, etc. To be perfectly honest, as a truckie I’m extremely time poor so I’ve only done very haphazard research and put virtually no time into learning, so it’s gonna be a struggle for me coz I’m only half smart and fully lacking in learning time!!!!!!!!

afaik there is a ressonance in water molecules at around 2,4GHz that causes the loss. That's why microwave ovens work with 2,45GHz ;) Well, we all love warm rain ... 73
@HamRadioDX
@HamRadioDX Год назад
Yes and no I guess? Rain fade won't be that substantial at 2.4 GHz. This was more like 20-30dB difference. It's interesting nonetheless. In fact sometimes we use rain showers for "rain scatter" which is scattering of signals via the rain cloud, very interesting indeed.
