To be fair, Polonius was trying to protect his daughter from being seduced by Hamlet Young women out there (who are young and naive) would fall for men who are lusting after them and prey on them and the parents are protecting their daughters by ordering them to stay away and don't trust them That's called tough love and overprotective

True. Polonius also suggests that he was a bit of a jerk himself, so knows what he's talking about.
