Natie and Murrie salvage hard wood scrap from the yard to make a window seal with some help from the boys. Ben gets the tractor moving to see if it will handle all of the yard work that needs to be done Finn paints himself into a bit of a corner(thanks Nat)😂!

Didn't notice if you did, but we always spray foam exterior windows and doors between framing and doors (foam for windows and doors specifically). I would have epoxied then caulked to seal that weathered wood grain (maybe would have pieced it, numbered the pieces, then coated, and then installed). In all the ways to do things, there's more than one acceptable way, and at least a few "right" ways. Looks like you're coming into the "it's finally a home" stretch. Living like this is stressful but it does pay off in the end (but never done in reality). 👽🗿👽🗿👽🗿👽

That tractor is actually an AMC Eagle that has been stripped down and had larger wheels installed. It was designed by Dick Teague for American Motors Corporation. Assembled in Kenosha Wisconsin for AMC and later for Chrysler. Produced from 1979-1989. Ben’s tractor is the extremely rare model with the diesel engine and two wheel drive. 😉😊

Tip: when using the table saw top for a work surface, crank the blade down all the way. It only takes a few seconds, if the mechanism is difficult to crank, it's a good time for maintenance.

Great looking shelf. A waterproof finish should make it last many years. And so special to have something of your dad's as a focal point. An, 'awww' moment. You are right, old wood is in high demand. Some distress it themselves, yours came with it.

Those are "Character Marks". Wish I was there so I could have swung by with a few RO sanders with a vacuum hose on them for use with the shop vac which would have made very short work of the sanding plus saved you quite a bit on sand paper plus its a little more healthy to keep the dust and spores at bay and off of you. The sanders are old and nothing illustrious but they are paid for plus I know how to source bearings etc for them to keep em running at low cost. I am currently doing similar turning old discarded solid wood furniture and yellow pine framing into new furniture and trim. Best!

To get epoxy off your hands, do what Madge did...soak in dish soap water until you get the prune skin going or you can try olive oil which likes to get in-between sticky and solid (like price tags or stickers on a surface). Acetone also works for removing stuff like epoxy, hand sanitizer is good because the gel additives get it from evaporating too quickly. 👽👽👽👽

Please don't use a diamond faced framing hammer with a nail set. The hardened diamond face is to sink into the heads of common nails so the hammer does not slip off when driving framing nails into heavy timber but has been known to chip and splinter nail sets and punches doing quite a bit of eye damage not to mention driving metal splinters into the hand holding the nail set. Had to take too many to the ER for emergency eye care after doing this and its not something you like to see repeated. Would really hate to see a young person end up with lifelong eye damage from using the wrong hammer with a nail set or punch. It only has to splinter one time to hurt you for the rest of your life. The scars on your hands that you can get from the splinters don't make for the best wedding cake cutting and wedding ring photos either. Best!

Here's a tip for filling those cracks. If you collect the sawdust from the wood you're using, you can mix it with epoxy to the consistancy of peanut butter then use it as a fillet to fill the gaps. A butter knife or putty knife is ideal for applying it. Then your filler is the same colour as the wood and garaunteed to bond properly to the epoxy top-coat. This is how you fill gaps and join angled planks when you make a wooden canoe. It's super strong too, the two keel planks of my boat are entirely held together by wood flour epoxy fillet.

The house my son had cabinet doors made from old pallet wood that looked similar. They are building a shop house now that will have a lot of blue pine I sawed on my mill. The logs came from my backyard as well as his. We came from sawmill maintenance/mechanic roots so sawdust is in our DNA. I see a lot of similarities in our families.
