Im sorry if im boring but take an advice from me, dont jump out of the escavator, you maybee dont feel anything now but after years of jumping out the knees will take damage. Step yourself down and use your arms on the handlebars. You will thank me later.

I absolutely second this advice, trust some old dudes who did not listen to the old dudes and are now paying the price. It may not seem like much and it's so much faster but repetitive impacts are brutal on the joints. Riley I just have to say that your ingenuity, drive and skills are really impressive and so much fun to watch. Courtney is as well and the two of you together is a recipe for beautiful creations 😊

At the concrete ready mix company I retired from our concrete truck's hydraulic lines would rub through and leak until the industry got wise years back and started securing hydraulic lines in some kind of plastic or nylon hose looms. Since then hydraulic line rub throughs has become a thing of the past.

just a heads up, when you started hammering your tracks were backwards. the final drives are heavier than the idlers so having them at the rear means you have a little more counterweight. also, if a rock hits your idler it's much less likely to cause damage than it would be to damage the final drives. keep on hammering!
@markmitchell457
@markmitchell457 Год назад
Holy Moly, there is a lot to know, to use heavy equipment correctly. Even at 70, I would pay to work on that road with that team, and equipment. My dad steered me away from heavy equipment when I was young. He was a ship builder, welder, heavy equipment operator, and diesel mechanic at Long Beach ship yard during WWII. When I appeared, he was a motorcycle shop owner. When I expressed an interest in diesel mechanics, he pointed out that diesel parts are big, heavy, and ruin your back. He pointed out that motorcycle mechanics can be done on the bench. Glad I listened I became a computer systems engineer. Computer parts don't weigh much, and you can work on computer hardware from a chair.😎

@@markmitchell457 haha your dad was definitely right. I just had a love for it ever since I was a kid, whenever a garbage truck or school bus went by I was floored. I didn't have any family in the business so had to figure it out myself but operating heavy equipment is something I'm very passionate about. I've worked on everything a little bit, just love to tinker. Built my first computer, my first car and first truck. Haven't rebuilt a tractor yet but I'm sure at some point I'll do that too

You realize they have no idea of what they are doing Road Construction Wise. Yes? NO? While I LOVE LOVE LOVE your comment 😍. This road will never be truly safe because of Snow/Ice and Rain on a mountain. A solution for this escapes me. If it were only Rain? A swale to catch the rain. Since they are living in a Four season climate. Frost plays a rather large factor in road building for the winter. For the summer? Where does the Rain Water or the Winter Runoff go? These are things that Riley has not even thought about YET! I hope he has thought of this and for the "ditch" to prevent a possible "washout", he has plenty of rocks for the ditch to prevent erosion of the road during heavy rain and or snow melts :) What is that old saying "Never Give Up and Never Surrender"!

Hey Riley! We love watching your progress on that road! Just to let you know, my husband who has 50+ years of heavy equipment experience as a mechanic and an operator, says you have the tracks too tight on the dozer. It causes undue wear and tear. 1-1/2" of slack is optimum. He's the experience, I'm just passing along the info.😊 Keep up the great work! Love the videos!

Looking good! That big Cat excavator sure is a game changer when you add in the rock hammer. Have you guys considered renting a roller to compact the road bed. A solid road bed won't be as vulnerable to becoming mud every time it sprinkles, and won't swallow all the gravel in the same way, especially since your driveway is going to get a lot less use than a standard road. Put down a layer of dirt/aggregate /etc, then compact it, repeat. The quality of the base is key to any road. And it will really help when it comes to having the ability for heavy vehicles to reach your homestead. Glad Bailey is better. Are the dogs enjoying having Oliver to investigate? Enjoy your summer!

Great content ! ! ! Be a little careful pulling solid rock with the bucket on the 330. If you put all the power into one bucket tooth you can literally tear the bucket. We did this with a John Deere 800 (which is a 168k lb excavator) and the bucket was 3 inch thick solid steel! Tore like a piece of paper! These machines are incredibly powerful. Keep up the good work!

Your road base should not sit on top soil. Push the top soil out of your way and build on rock and compacted clay. Then place the top soil back over the sides, leaving the gravel of the road on top of compacted clay. Building on top top soil and organics can cause your hill side to slip at a later date.

You might want to let some grease out of your dozer tracks. You want some droop between the top rollers so that the track chain won't have all that tension on the links. It wears out the pins and links extra fast and they aren't cheap or easy to replace. The info should be online as to how much droop, according to that particular model. When tightening tracks, always tighten some and then move the machine back and forth so the grease can equalize things out. Repeat until you get the desired tension. Excavators are similar, but again, read up for that particular size and model machine.

Hey Riley, I saw you installed a hose protector on your hydraulic hose. You might look into using some straight coolant hose in the future. You can split it with a razor blade knife at whatever length you desire and you won’t have a sharp edge at the end of the protector. Apply with heavy duty Ty wraps. A good choice is Gates 24024. This would work on most any hose for all of your machines!!
