Winter backpacking on the Appalachian Trail in Maryland with a snow storm barreling down on me! Solo hammock camping on the AT I have a lot of experience but not in these conditions. So I grabbed my pack and hit the trail for an adventure. The snow then ice came on hard but I was cozy in the hammock all night. In the morning I woke to 8 inches of snow and a 1/4 inch of ice. That made postholing out a challenge. I did find Bobcat tracks while exploring a ridge. A bonus the snow brings. In the new year many more backpacking trips will be added to the channel. This video marks a 1 year anniversary for the channel and I appreciate the support from you all. THANKS FOR WATCHING!! NEW VIDEOS EVERY WEEK!!

Really engaging and well documented trip - was totally immersed. And a very cool shot with no footprints to set up the camera 25:52 :)

looks like a fun time mix the slim jim in with the soup next time wind goes up the mountain during daylight and goes down at night hopefully you have acquired some nice winter boots after this

If you brought some hand warmers and put them in your shoes and put your shoes in plastic bags would have semi warm shoes to put on in the morning ... And put your hammock buckles under tarp would stay dry mostly ...

I normally just put my shoes in a plastic bag in the morning and put it in my quilt with me. Does the trick in like ten minutes. My hammock hooks were under the tarp as always but still froze up. Thanks for coming along

Thanks. Snow sure does change the trail. Been on that section many times never while snowing thou. My backpacking has much evolved over the years. Got my kit dialed in and have confidence in all my gear.

Cool. I used to break trail in knee deep (waist in some spots) snow out west and gaiters were key. While more durable, they don't help you slip into frozen shoes like plastic shopping bags though lol. Cheers!

Good times, I’d love those conditions to test my kit in, thanks for the video, enjoyed it a lot.

It was fun. A test for my gear too since my quilts are rated to 20° and it got down to 17° plus my hammock tarp doesn’t have doors. But just hung my rain gear on each open end to block wind/snow. Thanks for watching!

Dang that looks like a cold one! Too cool seeing those bobcat tracks at 27:05, I feel like that's pretty rare to find!

Bobcats tracks surprised me! 17° for a low with 20° quilts but I survived. A good test for my gear

Finding Bobcat tracks that’s awesome! Your tarp held up well considering. 17° is a bit too cold for my liking. Great vid!!

I was surprised by the bobcat tracks. Pushed my 20° quilts past their rating. All was good thou. Thanks
