This is my second time hammock camping, and I’m starting to clearly see the pros and cons verses tent camping, so expect a comparison video sometime this year. This was a very fun solo overnight camp in what amounted to about a foot of snow when all was said and done. I hope you enjoy!

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your content. My family was never into camping so it is nice to see this tradition/pastime being lived out through other people just doing their own thing. You keep things real in your videos-no bullshit-just getting out there and doing it. That is super cool! Stay safe and stay blessed.

Thanks, I’m glad you can enjoy it anyway. And I’m glad the no bs attitude comes through. That’s a big part of how I try and live my life.

I hope hope you can get out and do some more camping. I like the way you put your videos together and letting yourself go and doing what you would normally do if nobody was watching. Looked like a fun trip.

Yeah, we’ll see. I don’t get much time away from work and when I do I prefer cabin camping these days. It’s the day walking I enjoy more than anything, but I usually manage to camp a few times a year.

Great camp Kevin! The library is insane! Love that cat!
@KevinsDisobedience
@KevinsDisobedience 2 года назад
Thanks, the camp was fun. Been working on that library shelf little by little for awhile. Still need to put up the crown molding and wrap it with base, but otherwise it’s about done. That stupid cat walks up the ladder and then can get down. He basically just fell from the top lol. I think he learned his lesson now.

I knew if I stuck around for the choppy choppy, I would get some magic and tragic. :-) Love the backpacking vids. I'm a big fan of hammocking too. Super cute kiddy!

Thanks for putting up with the choppy. I do a lot more foraging and wild Id vids in the spring if that’s your thing. Thanks for sticking around.

I thought about it, but everything was so wet once it started snowing and I want to give myself the best chance possible. I’ve actually been watching a few videos on the bow drill and birds nest. But thanks for keeping on me. I’ll definitely do…well, try it anyway.

Today I watch the film The Village. I thought that I recognized the woodland in it and then found out its set in Pennsylvania. It looks like it could have been filmed on your property. Such a cool camp out! I hammock camped in the snow before at it was brilliant

Is that the one where it turns out they’re in the modern world at the end? I didn’t realize that was in PA. I wish someone would pay me to film here lol. There’s a few things I really like about hammock camping, and a few things I really don’t like. Future vid, I guess.

@@KevinsDisobedience that's the one. I'd be frightened a blind girl would run into my hammock in the middle of the night. How big is your property?

Was looking forward to this one mate, glad u ended up out there! Great vid too, that wood stack was impressive! I second that advice on camping. I'm out swag camping in the western NSW heat at the moment, sitting under a tarp, taking advantage of my one bar of service! Nearly canned the trip due to heavy rain back home on the coast, so glad I didnt! Also jealous of that library, always wanted one of those ladders
@KevinsDisobedience
@KevinsDisobedience 2 года назад
I’m glad I did it, too. Almost didn’t. Well enjoy the trip. Library was my dream for a long time now. I’ve been building it slowly since I’ve moved in. Just gotta put up the crown molding and wrap it with baseboard and I’m done.

I love the comfort of the modern world, but the craziness of the past two years makes this kind of lifestyle seem more and more appealing. I definitely need to work on my inclement weather camping skills.
@KevinsDisobedience
@KevinsDisobedience 2 года назад
In my opinion it would suck to live like this. You just can’t ever get clean, and your only real warmth is the fire and the smoke gets annoying after a few days lol. But it’s fun for a short time.

Nice setup and prep! In my experience, the rating on the bag is more the limit than the comfort you'd expect. Easier to take a layer off than want more.
@KevinsDisobedience
@KevinsDisobedience 2 года назад
Yeah, it’s definitely just a warning. Most people would prefer this bag even in much warmer weather, like 40F.

Nice. Unfortunately in western Kansas if we get a foot of snow it is normally combined with high winds (35mph+). I would wake-up to 3+ft snow drifts.

I lived in Kansas for five years, only place I've seen a tarp take three full grown men for a ride on a windy day.

I drove through Kansas once. I was amazed how flat it was. Western PA is all rolling hills, basically the tail end of Appalachia.

Your a wild man! I’d love to do that (with proper gear, which I don’t have enough of). Very cool video sir.
@KevinsDisobedience
@KevinsDisobedience 2 года назад
It doesn’t take much honestly. Proper under clothing, two cheap sleeping bags tucked inside each other, and a Walmart tent and you’re on your way. I’ve spent way more nights in the woods with shitty gear than i have good gear. Camping is much more fun with a buddy though. Solo has its own vib to it, but without reception there’s a lot of down time that you don’t see on camera.

Cold weather hiking and camping definitely makes you think differently about hydration. Nothing quite as miserable as leaving a warm sleep sack in sub zero temps.

Awesome video Kevin looks like you had a great set up going on there !! Never tried camping in a hammock looks like great fun. Do you think it helps with keeping warm vs. a sleeping bad on the ground on a sleeping pad .. also sorry my fat thumbs hit dislike on accident and I clicked it again and hit like I hope it corrected. 👍
@KevinsDisobedience
@KevinsDisobedience 2 года назад
Yeah, I suspect there’s some R-value gained by being up off the ground if you have an under quilt, but if you’ve got a good sleeping mat it’s probably about the same. I do like the cocoon feeling you get in a hammock, but I much prefer a tent for a few reasons.

Suspension looks way less than 30°. Why the bug net in snow? Don't think I'm brave enough to camp in winter snow. Good for you. Nice fire.
@KevinsDisobedience
@KevinsDisobedience 2 года назад
Still figuring the system out. Only my second time hammock camping. As I said in the vid, put the bug net on for practice, but I’m actually glad I did. It deflected the snow that came in under the tarp which otherwise would have end up on me. It was fun. Nothing to be afraid of. Thanks for watching. I mean it.

If you open the butt of your cigarette and fluff it up a bit it lights really good w a rod if you care to try. I need a good underquilt, i havent hammock camped nearly enough the last year. Do you think your limiting factor for warmth was your underquilt or the sleeping bag?
@KevinsDisobedience
@KevinsDisobedience 2 года назад
That’s a good trick. I’ll have to try that actually, thanks. Definitely the under quilt. When the fire went out I got cold from underneath, but I didn’t have it fitted very good until 3am. I didn’t realize there were toggles to tighten it up, so I’ll let you know next time.
