This would have blown the minds of the men that built the first subways

The machine is like a monster..

To think. One day my grandkids will be stuck in traffic in this tunnel. Warms my heart.

I’ve been a member of 3 crews that bored out three major tunnels and I can tell you they are the best group of workers I’ve ever worked with. They always have your back.

The precision of drilling through underground for miles to make its exit at the exact pre-cut position is insane

They call it boring but I find it really quite exciting

Respect to the engineers and mechanics who built this monster of a machine

The UK/France built the Channel Tunnel in the 1980s. The two machins met in the middle and were only 130mm out of line. The tunnel is 27 miles long.

Ive been on big construction projects that involve multiple companies and it took months to over a year to finish. That comradery when the project reaches a big milestone is one of the most gratifying feelings a man can have. You group of men through toil and sweat have built a thing that will serve our society for decades to come. It satisfies a need to create and provide and be part of something. I believe its why men take these kinds of roles. We seek that specific feeling of gratification

I fixed the rescue shelter A/C on this machine while it was boring. It’s 42 foot wide and is amazing to see in person.

It reminds me of the drill bits my father used to buy to drill for water. They were diamond encrusted to drill through malapai rock. A diamond bit would take him two days, a regular bit, two weeks to drill a well.

I marvel at the precision of the journey. To meet at the right coordinates is an amazing feat

To think machines like this exist is just mind blowing fantastic video

Just imagine what the world could do if they all just got along and spent their money on structure instead of war, it would never happen just a thought

People have no idea how gigantic this machine is in real life

So they already made those saw cuts for the shape of the TBM, pretty precisely cut 👏🏽

the amazing part is that the engineers knew EXACTLY where this would exit. that is amazing.

I used to drive through that thing 20 years ago + it always made me shudder thinking how terrifying it would be were it to collapse

It's amazing how at the same time this thing is working, the workers behind it are removing debris and lining the wall with concrete at the same time🤯

Fun fact, these machines have been around since the late 50s but obviously weren't announced

More amazing the pre face cut exactly where the boring bit would breat through so it would be a clean hole due to the relief cuts in the outside of the concrete ❤😮 that was some good measurements!!

We are finally seeing these machines. They have been around for a long time. The tunnels they have bore have been done long ago. One acronym. D.U.M.B.’s.

Glad to see they got ones side done, hopefully this will help speed things along. The traffic going thru the original tunnels is getting rather ridiculous, its hard for us who work live on side and work on the other especially during the summer months when all the tourists use these highways and create miles of backups
