Hampton Roads Bridge Underwater Tunnel, Norfolk Virginia Thanksgiving 2017 

You wouldn't see much. It is under the sea floor.

I was stationed there on a frigate from 2013-2016. Thank you to your dad for his service, I actually miss being out there.

From Norfolk myself. The first time I drove across the HRBT, I was terrified. Got much easier the more I did it.

It was built first and then placed there by using under water dredging.

There are several around the world and they are quite amazing.

They build sections of it, submerge each, connect sections under water, then pump the water out.

I'd rather do that one than the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnels.👀 Or the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland for that matter. In a car it probably wouldn't be so bad because it's not as wide and low to the ground compared to a big truck.

There is no toll on this tunnel. You're probably meaning the chesapeake bay Bridge tunnel. Theyre not far from each other. The area has 5.

kitty plays actually it was made because Norfolk is a nuclear armed naval base, the tunnels are there to prevent the nuclear armed ships from being block in if the bridges were ever attacked and blown up..if u ever look at all 3 bridge tunnels on a map, u can see how they’re all strategically placed to allow access from Newport News ship yard, to the Navy base, out to the ocean

@@Corrupted_truths Norfolk Virginia is home to the largest naval base in the world the Corps Engineers wouldn't allow them to build a bridge that will restrict the naval ships from getting out to the Atlantic Ocean in a timely manner

@@timbodking2645 Oops! My bad. You're right. I go over to Eastern Shore a few times a year on business, but I guess since it's not a daily thing I don't have it mapped out in my head. Looks like they're doing some serious work or maintenance on it. They've got the pier and the restaurant closed down right now, or at least it was a couple of months back when I installed a house of cabinets over there!

@@LuisCypher4666 Yeah there doing the tunnels so there is no traffic coming and going in the same tube. When there done will be another tube so no oncoming traffic. Way safer that way for everyone. And yeah wasn't calling you out or anything hell I had to inform the guy who made the video he had the HRBT & CBBT in the same video as well. Anywho stay safe I just live her my entire life and been over both more times then I can count.

@@timbodking2645 I moved to this area in 1993. I live over here in the Deep Creek area of Chesapeake. That'll be nice when they get done with that. You'd think I'd be aware of the work they're doing there, but a few years back news and politics were making me feel like my head was about to explode, so I just decided to quit watching it. These days I don't even have cable tv any more. In my house it's all just internet. RU-vid, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. Maybe I should start keeping up with local news, but I probably won't!

That's a loaded question. It depends on the time of day and time of the year. I live on the South side but had to work on the Peninsula for almost 6 years. The traffic issues are the commutes given the traffic going to and from the naval base in Norfolk and the shipyard in Newport News. I've sat in traffic for hours during "rush hour". This time is compounded by tourist season. It sometimes takes me over 2 hours to get home during rush hour. During non rush hours the commute is just a couple of minutes. They are getting ready to bore a new tube soon. That's at least a decade too late. Like other metropolitan areas you get used to it. Maybe one day we'll be like the harbor tubes in Baltimore. But you can keep the toll boths :)
