I follow some of the other guys posting plastering vids and thought they had it all sewn up. You've taken things to another level with your tips and different view on content, absolutely brilliant!. Favourite tips are how to keep the skirtings clean and using SBR to control suction. I learnt to plaster about 20 years ago in my 40's and worked professionally for a couple of years but gave in to permanent employment in an office. I still do bits now which I really enjoy and will be trying SBR for sure in the battle to control suction and allow me more time. Thanks, Kirk

Cracking job These plastic filling knives are brilliant, pretty much stopped using a twitcher. I get them sharp and straight from the trowel then get them tight with the plastic knife. The back to a polish with a trowel Blinding tool, also for those crappy little bits next to architraves

@rayh4112 6 месяцев назад
Hi Kirk I use to form them like your doing but without the scrim sheet. We used normal scrim all over the cracks. Don't think they had them rolls. But I've seen plasterers use a old frying pan to form the curve. Which would form the barrel and catch any drops. I even bought a trowel for barrels which was curved. But a good broken in trowel works a treat

Also Kirk in this vid u worked down to the top of a frieze/picture rail which in my mind although in no way easy must make it easier than working all the way down to skirt level cos in that scenario ur effectively doing the lid and the wall all in one or basically the whole room ide love to know how u manage to do this without the plaster running away from u and going off I’m pretty sure u can do it would just luv to know ur method I don’t know why though cos I ain’t gonna attempt to do it think this is beyond me cheers mate

Excellent vid Kirk. Only found you on you tube lately. I'm in sunny Runcorn. Been plastering since I was 13 cause my dad was a plasterer and had to help him for free. (Got the feeling you probably been the same). Loads of same tips as I was taught, keeping bit of stiff stuff on side for fixing any dig in marks or knocks etc. Only difference in our routine is for the internals using our small tool for extra sharpness. Keep up the great work.

Best not to attempt this level of plastering unless you are well above average this is high high skill set work a flat sponge is a massive help on the external corners and a small external angle trowel helps to form nice sharp corners This Man has the dainty touch he’s making it look easy but even he needed to have a Beer afterwards 😊

I had to laugh when you said about 'never' overlap your scrims 😂😂 .... One of My early jobs - back in the days of Hessian scrim - (which you have to put a LOT MORE plaster on initially) - I scrimmed 'all' of the joints in an Attic Conversion that was ALL Plasterboard ... My Mate & Me were going to get it ALL in one HIT! 🤨 .... Got almost to the end of the scrimming when ONE started to peel away .... My Mate RAN as fast as he could - 'I' still had my hands full - halfway through putting one up - YEP! You guessed It - AARRGGHH!!!!!!! .... I was Mummified in a HundredWeight of plaster and scrim with my Mate rolling all over the floor 🤣😂🤣😂 ... I couldn't even MOVE! it was that heavy ... I had to wait a while before he could calm himself down for him to be able to FREE Me from my Scrim Coffin .... Good job I wasn't on my own EH?? 😀 ... I did grow to 'love' doing the simple plaster coving that you show here - And! the freehand arches - Can't STAND those mesh articles 🤨 ... But let this tale of Woe be a lesson to ALL budding Plasterers - DO NOT overlap scrim unless by maybe an inch at most ......By the way - very impressed you were able to chat away while doing what 'was' a pretty awkward set of angles there 👏👏🤠

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm actually sat in a cafe laughing out loud at this. We've all been there when wet scrims wrap around your head 🤣 The funny thing is though, it's a simple tip and it will fly over the head of most young lads, its only looking back from experience that you appreciate this tip. Cheers for the funny story mate

why did that architrave go up first on the ceiling , be easier to skim then bang it on .. makes it ten times harder ...and for the bends just use a wide angle trowel get a great finish afterwards . ..and to be perfect get a soft sponge put in to a plastic bag like a see through plastic dip in water shake off and go round your bends just when going off that'll do it

@@Onthetrowel I guess it comes down to what works and what is handy a lot of the time. I cut my teeth doing dry wall in Australia and they do it very differently. We rarely skim the entire wall, we just do the joints, corners and screws, When I was younger I could do an entire small 3 bedroom house in a day walls and ceilings just using hand tools. No one knows what a speed skim or a Darby is but we have lots of different size broad knives which we use often and frequently only one or 2 trowels but I have 5 trowels including 2 curved trowels and a bowed trowel. So its really a different trade.

We called it rolling the ceiling. Take experience , surprised you didn't use a internal trowel.polishiing walls is daft. You get it shining then they hit it with paint and rollers and it looks like orange peel anyway. Pointless. Experience, practice required for a job like that. Top job by the way!
