@@Onthetrowel hi,,bit similar to most council estate lads,,,i did a lot of labouring for different trades, roofing, plasterboarding, groundworks, fencing, lol it goes on,,till i found electrics,,it was the cleanest and best paid,,i found,,but i got so bored,,and i ike a little smoke of the waky baccy so,,they dont go,,got blown across a school gym once not taking notice of the board i was working on,,and thought,,f that,,me dad was a painter and id worked with him as a lad,,i can picture a room in any colour and i can use both hands,,so i can cut in left or right handed,,i once painted the railings on hastings sea front one end to the other,,in summer,,just shorts,,was a crack..anyway i,ll shut up..keep it up big man,,,, 😉

You Are! ... A steel trowel gets a LOT sharper than a Stainless-Steel trowel and gives a far better finish .... Stainless Steel Trowels never lose the slightly 'rubbery' feel to finishing ... They're also GUILTY of causing 'Reverberations' in the finish because of the Rubberiness .... Good luck with yer DIY plastering though 👍🤠

Go carbon mate, my van got nicked a couple of years ago, had only ever had stainless, when buying my tools again, I accidentally bought a carbon. After just under 2 years, it’s an absolute weapon. Gives a far better finish than stainless or flexi, can use all the way through if I so pleased, but i don’t purely to prolong her life span. She’s ridiculously sharp, I mean almost dangerously, I’ve caught myself with her many times and blood has just gushed (not using that as a selling point) from how sharp she is. I’ve got a carbon back up as well and because I’m a trowel junkies, I’ve bought a permashape, but I seldom use it. My carbon 13x5 is the best trowel I’ve ever owned by far

What you're talking about is another form of rolling gauge. 1st coat an area you are comfortable that you know you can finish. Let's say half of a ceiling, get to half way and feather the first coat off to nothing. Do the same with the second coat and finish one half of the ceiling, always feather off to nothing. Start on the remainder of the ceiling ensuring you've put a good coat of SBR or PVA on the area that has been feathered off and don't let it dry out. that way you'll be able to blend in the two halves for a perfect finish. You can use the same technique on a wall, I've tackled walls that have been 13ft high where I've set up a trestle, finish the top half, feathering off to nothing, removed the trestle and tackled the bottom half as per the above.

Or just do the whole wall and no need to do any feathering,

I only ever really use a feather edge on backcoat plaster, occasionally I might use a speedskim to flatten but usually just my trowel mate

Coz it looks shit and it's probably faster to just skim full ceiling than patching and sanding down mate pay cheap u normally pay twice in my eyes 🤷‍♂️
