Hand Cutting a Stone D20 from Earthy Desert Jasper!

Hey Everyone! In this video I transformed a stunning piece of Polychrome Jasper, or Desert Jasper, into a huge D20 die! This one is definitely a favorite of mine. I love the size and weight, and the color patterns turned out beautifully. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Came here through the algorithm because I've been watch Hedron Rockworks. Watched all of your videos so far. I am a rock hound and collect rocks, I just haven't figured out what to do with the rocks I've collected yet. Do you take gift packages of rocks? No payment would be expected, it would be reward enough for me to see a rock or two I've found made into something beautiful.

That's a giant d20 for some really nice 20 nat. Awesome work! Keep going like this 😁 I never did this but I want to suggest something. When cutting the mask on the CNC, why don't you cut it in a continuous mask instead of one piece per face? In theory it should be faster to apply 🤔

I dream of having two d20s, one made from synthetic sapphire and one from synthetic ruby.

YES!! I definitely want to cut some synthetic ruby and sapphire! The great thing about Ruby and Sapphire is they're a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, which is almost as hard as diamond, so they're incredibly durable (and incredibly hard to cut, haha!). Definitely on my dream cut list for sure!

Gorgeous work! Love how it turned out in the end. How long does it take you from start to finish for a piece like this?

Thank you!! Each stone is different, and it depends a lot on the hardness of the stone. Jasper is made of microgranular quartz or chalcedony, which has a Mohs hardness of ~7. While it is a bit difficult to cut and can be time-consuming, it tends to polish up quickly and easily. All in, I'm just about 40 or so hours on this one. I am nowhere near the fastest gem cutters and know there's a lot of room for improvement in my process. A master could probably cut that time in half. 😊
