This is the last Olympics during the Cold War era. The last Olympics West Germany played, the last Olympics the Soviet Union played. The first Olympics ever where the world came together in Union without any blockage from several countries. This is perhaps the best Olympics ever, I was 7 years old during this great world event. What a beautiful memory.

In September 1988 I was 6 years old. This was one of the first songs in my life, that got my attention. And the very first song ever, which I heard from an korean/asian band. Even as a only 6 year old child this song touched my heart. Many years after the Olympic Games 1988 I forgot this song, but "Hand in Hand" by Koreana was 17 weeks (!) #1 in the charts of West-Germany. As 16 years old teen I'd forgot this song already. Around 2010 I was searching in RU-vid and suddenly I rediscovered this beautiful piece of music! I couldn't believe that I forgot such a wunderful song. For me it's the best olympic theme song of all time.
This song was played every single year during the torch run at our school sports week.. I'm 35 now and still remember the scenes vividly. Gives me goosebumps and feeling nostalgic and wonderful all at ones.. ❤❤❤
I was 10 years old and watching Olympics and World Cup was like a festival in our family. Now both my parents have passed away and only the memory lives in my heart. These days the sparkle and sportsmanship is gone from sports world and I don’t follow them anymore.

2024년에 들어도 눈물이 날려하네요. 냉전종식되고 개최된 서울올림픽에서 평화강조하고 벽을 허물자고 노래하더니 2년뒤 베를린장벽이 실제 무너졌지요. 타이밍적으로 너무 완벽하고 공기가 많이섞인 노래자체가 풍기는 느낌이 세계를 하나로 묶는듯한 느낌도 나고요. 이 노래 덕분에 전세계인들 아리랑하면 한국이란걸 알게됬지요. 근데 아이러니하게도 서울올림픽 후 독일은 통일되고 30년이 훌쩍넘어도 아직도 세계에서 유일하게 한국만 분단되있는 현실이 슬프지요. 어떻게 희망이 있는거도 아니고 김씨세습에 목숨거는 북한상황 노답이고요ㅠ
I was 7 years old and this song, along with both the opening and closing ceremony of Seoul 1988 made me fall in love with Korean cultue, which gave birth to my interest in their movies and dramas as well and I'll be 43 soon, i feel goosbumps whenever I listen to this song. I love this song❤This song is my childhood memory of 1988. I was then only 8-year-old and everything in the world seemed so wonderful. Watching the games for the first time on TV and observing all the details of the sportsmen and sportswomen doing their very best in their field. Wow, those were the good days and memories.
