I can't tell u how hard I laughed when I looked up and saw Buckin playn the drums with the dust mask on!!🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❣ Thank u Buckin! Big Love to the Army❣❣ ✌❤
Play them drums more often. If you do, they won't collect enough dust to require a respirator! And it does help to take care of yourself as you get older. Being closer to 70 than I am to 60, I found things getting harder and harder to do. Last fall, when I had to resort to a wood splitter to put up my firewood, I decided that I needed to change my lifestyle. So, I lost 65 pounds, got off all my meds, and took control of my life. I feel much younger, have higher energy, and even started rehanging all of my old axes! Never did that before, but watching you gave me the desire to add a little more of myself to my work. I used to just set an axe aside when the handle had issues. Buying a new one is fun, a man can never have too many axes, but rehanging one yourself puts a little of you into it. It puts life back into an old axe, but puts even more back into an old man! So, Buckin', don't let time creep up on you. Pay attention and remember that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. A man letting himself slide robs so much from his life. Taking care of yourself is a full time job, and if you do it right it can still be fun. Saws and axes are a part of that. I'm here to tell you. Keep up the good work! I love your videos! Carry on.
Thanks again for the quality video and intertainment. I'm 52 years young same as you and I'm 2 years without alcohol. Now losing some weight as well , I feel great. And thanks for letting us know about the Harmless Farmer . He is truly inspiring, thanks again my friend. B
Some of the nicest wood grain that i have seen on any handle anywhere. Hand rubbed oil to expose the veins of the grains takes away the pains of daily life and gives us an appreciation for the simple detail and creates a true natural work of art.
I'm just learning how to haft an axe and hang vintage axe heads, diving in with both feet something just feels great about making one of the manliest tools. Buckin you are great for the world and better for the soul brother keep on keeping on!
Bad day turned good right here on this channel and reading everyones positive comments! You should be proud of what you've done here in this community. Hope everyone has a nice day
Buckin Billy Ray could easily sell one million Axes. He knows his wood and the perfect splitting Ax to build. This Ax would be therapy for my torn right shoulder rotor joint. The best? Is watching Buckin throwing an Axe and hitting his target and sticking the Axe in the wood. The Kindness he radiates is fuel for the human race. We have a chance to survive
I have an oak handle entirely made by myself at October 2020 and it has much bigger cracks, finished just with linseed oil (we do not have Watco here). Still works, doesn't fall apart.
Love to watch you make each axe. They are all a little different. So interesting to see how each one turns out. Then watching you split with that axe is the real treat. Great work. Thanks! 👏
great to see you hafting again! I just assembled a prehistoric bearded axe head on a teak handle...wanted to show ya . Thanks for always inspiring my man!
Hey buckin, just wanted to say I mastered the flick technique. It helped watching your videos and how you explain it. And boy the flick technique really tests your wedging! I have to re wedge two axes.
Love your craftsmanship there's not too many around that can do that type of stuff anymore my grandfather had a great act for it you just thought good memories back I'm watching you Billy
Great time watching you make that axe Buckin. I spent my life as a cabinetmaker and furniture builder. Often times when you cut your stock up there are fine checks in the the end pieces when you cut your wood up. It is always good to cut six inches off the end of your wood before you get started. You are doing an amazing job on those handles. I am sure proud of your work and the skill you have with a drawknife. They are not an easy tool to master and keep sharp. You are the best axe builder I have ever seen. Love you brother!
#8 good morning billy loved watching your show on tv so I’m happy I just found your channel last week because I really in joy watching what you do so thank you so much for taking the time to make them for just to watch and learn
Would love to have that axe. Been watching you for years, mainly started because you run Macs. Was super stoked when you mentioned that head being from Charleston. Born and raised in and around Charleston my whole life. Awesome piece.
Great build buddy. Thank you for taking the time to show us your handy work with board to handle. Such craftsman and woodsmanship I love it. Thank you Buckin. 🌲❤🌲✊🪓
Thanks for posting the axe build. Really enjoy seeing the Process that goes into it. I would love to buy one of your axes someday. Anyway have a great rest of your day!
Great video! I just recently acquired an old Union Tool Co. axe head out of Charleston, WV for $5. Which is really cool because I live in WV. I can’t wait to bring thus axe head back to life.
Billy! Recently joined the community. Your videos are ruining my academic career! hahaha Super appreciate you and your unrelenting positivity. I'm stuck in the 'big stink' (Vancouver) and watching you makes me miss living on the Island. It is a magical place. Ever thought of creating a secondary 'clips' channel? Having shorter videos would really help me get more school work done :)
Lots of love Buckin you are nuts. Welcome new comers you will enjoy the one man show. Nice axe Buckin i just finished Mr. Miyagi double bit and Ms Nancy a 4lb single bit I'd like to show yoy n hear what ya thinks of my meddlings
Buckin' I love your videos, you got me into splitting my own firewood for my pizza oven, and boy lemme tell you, it's a great workout. Keep doing what you're doing and spread the love!
it'll be a "time are good and i have money to splurge" but i will one day commission myself a buckin billy ray axe if you're still doing them when that time comes!!!! love your videos. recently new viewer, probably a month or so.
Great video and love the passion for axes and preserving the past. I often trim some of the excess handle that is proud of the eye in order to full seat the wedge. Then a final cut or sand to finish. Just what I do.....maybe give it a try and see if it works for you. Stay positive.
"Got to say that this is a first for me". A drummer wearing a mask to filter out metal particles, while playing. Now I've seen it all. Wondering, are you using a GoPro to film all of your videos? You are the best Buckin, keep on enjoying life.
Sweet axe! Great job on the handle too. I'm also a big proponent of a sharp axe and always get rid of the speed bump. Don't matter how long it takes either. When I'm done with my axes I can literally shave with em. I usually do the file and folding shop towel routine and finish the edge with whetstones. Can take all frickin day to do one axe head, but the results are well worth the effort. To me anyway lol.✌
Nice job, awesome channel. I have to tell ya tho, I have george Washington’s original ax passed down to me , yes the one that he used to chop down the cherry tree. Of course it’s had 2 new heads and 3 new handles.

if you think making your own axe handles is joy you should feel the joy you feel when your sitting in a building that you cut down all the trees tuned it into lumber and build it yourself and knowing it will be there long after your gone a feeling you cant explain
Whooee that came out purdy! Nice handle, nice vid and what a lot of amazing positive people in the comments. Also: good move with breathing protection on the drums, a fellow can’t be too careful. 😂😂😂
