Hey Folks, This week I take on a wee side project, Hand lettering and painting the gas tank side logos on his vintage "The Famous James" motorcycle. A friend of mine owns this old vintage motorcycle and has been toiling away on it to get it running and riding again, not a full true restoration, but more of a getting it running and save it from the scrape heap or rotting away in some garage somewhere.
I size up the logo up a wee bit bigger than the original would have been, with the hope that I'll still be able to hand letter some of the finer outlines and drop shadows incorporated in the design, I use some Saral paper to transfer the design onto both sides of the petrol tank and set about painting each colour of the logo in day stages between each colour. For paint I am mostly using One Shot enamel which sadly is no longer available here in New Zealand, and for the gold parts I am using Alphanamel, which was supplied by the owner of the bike. For brushes I used a variety of AS Hanover Pure Sable lettering brushes and my go to Von Dago Pro Series 0000 Striper
