Cantaloupe, like many other members of the Cucurbitaceae family, produce both male and female flowers on the same plant. You can tell the difference between male and female flowers by looking at the base of the blossoms. Female flowers have a bulge just below the blossom, which is the unfertilized fruit. Once pollinated, or fertilized, the fruit grows and matures into the sweet cantaloupe, squash or cucumber.
