I was struggling awith hand quilting .been trying to master it for a year .watched your video over and over and had a eureka moment. I easnt using my thimble under the quilt effectively . Thank you so very much . Im thrilled . Im hand piecing a quilt and i really wanted to hand quilt it .
This was so helpful to see under the plastic thank you. I’m new and I’m destroying my fingertips my fingers feel like eagle talons my hands are so cramped holding the needle for dear life. But my finger underneath is raw I’m sure this quilt I’ve worked on has my skin and blood in its fibers. I really need an aunt Becky so I stop destroying my finger
Thank you Sara. I knew I needed to show what happens under the quilt because it's just as important as what what you can see from the top. I think the main reason people struggle with the Aunt Becky is because they can't understand/see what it does when viewed from the top of a quilt only.
This is an awesome video. With the use of the plastic, I got a feel for exactly what you were doing. I am very excited about trying this new method. I think knowing how to quilt the traditional way may be a hinder at first, but I would like to become proficient with Aunt Becky. I think it will speed up how much I can quilt in one sitting.
Thank you Joyce for you comments. I try to think of the best way to show how to do things. And It's great when people take the time to make positive comments. It spurs me on to make more little videos. Aunt Becky is such a simple tool and she makes Such a difference to my Quilting experience. I hope you enjoy using her too. Joy
BRILLIANT!!! Thank you so much for using the plastic! I FINALLY get it! AND thank you for explaining the difference between embroidery & quilting tension. No other video I have ever watched has mentioned this. Since I am an old embroiderer & a new quilter I could not figure out how to rock the needle on a drum tight surface! What a blessing you are!!
Thank you for you kind comments. It has started my day on a good note knowing I've help you understand hand quilting a little better. And your not alone, I have seen quite a few embroiderers have a 'light bulb' moment when I explain the difference between working embroidery and quilting in a hoop.
@@JoyMorganJoyofquilting I am so glad I could start your day happily! I have 20 three ring hexie flowers and that is about half as many as I need to make a quilt... So I thought "Oh God! I better figure out how to quilt this since it appears I really like doing it and it would be great to have a quilt I actually made by hand!" Then I panicked when I couldn't figure out how!?! Lol
Thank you! You understand the need of students trying to use Aunt Becky usinfpg the plastic. It's so clear. I'll try the technique again. Love your accent.
Thank you for showing the underneath hand and proper motion to use. I have been frustrated trying to use Aunt Becky and older videos didn't show me what I needed to see. Watching your other tutorials, Welch binding, joining quilt as you go - great techniques!
I am Welsh. Grandparents from Ebbw Vale and Nant-yGlo. I'm in Monmouthshire but Heads of the Valley end. I've sewn since being taught by Mam as a child. More embroidery than quilting and never knew what an Aunt Becky. Will be checking your other videos and blog.
No too far away then. I'm in the South, Port Talbot. I also learnt to sew as a child, more dressmaking than embroidery, although I do love a bit of hand stitching nowerdays. I can see you found my Facebook page. Hope you enjoy browsing my blog too. I only started the blog a few months ago, so it's still very much a work in progress.

Ha! Well your video let me learn how to use it! The instructions it came with made no sense to me. “Up the hill” was the key for me. And love your accent! Thank you
Thank you Denise for you kind comments. Glad I could help you learn how to use your Aunt Becky. I think seeing is often easier to understand than reading, it brings to words to life. My Welsh accent seems quite popular with everyone too:)
