The day I arrived back in the US after spending several years living in PNG, I visited our home town zoo and went to the Wallaby enclosure where 20 of them were gathered under the shade of a large tree. Leaning on the top rail of the chain link fence, I noticed one turn and seemingly stare at me. He began hopping over to me and looked directly into my eyes as if he recognized I had just returned from the land of wallabies. Then he did the unexpected and leaped up to grab unto my folded forearms which I was using to rest on the rail. Slowly he pulled himself nose to nose with me to the surprise of at least 30 people also standing along the fence. After a brief moment locked in this face to face encounter, he let go and bounded back to his mob. Could he have an internal magical sense that just a week before I had come face to face with a wallaby in the wild of PNG? That’s my theory anyway of these extraordinary animals.
