Yep something about splitting wood that makes a man feel like a man, I think that's why it appeals to teen boys. These days there is so little a young man can do to prove his strength and prowess and I have found that handing a teen an axe and giving a little guidance lets them show off a bit, provides some exercise and gets something useful accomplished.
Hey Buckin, so happy to see the ol girl back in service and she looks a real weapon too. Buddy this community is like family now, it’s a really special place filled with people that have fantastic morals. Lots of love to the army 💪💪 Hope everyone is well.
I am very proud to be part of this brother , and you and your lovely dame are a force from down under of true kindness.. thank you for opening you hearts top this community ,, vulnerability is strength
That stuff is like rebar in concrete! That’s a heck of a firewood processing crew! So many different ways to skin a cat but you just need to find the most effective way. Good work fellas. Love to you and the family❤️
Soft woods are fun to split. Hardwoods - harder, but you know this. Drink more water when swing an ax. Soak the 125 cyl. / piston with oil before yanking it out. Have fun. Hey, let the boy know (which ever one it was) bad idea to lift a chunk of wood when the ax is buried / stuck in it. Be safe.
I've been splitting wood since I was 8 years old it was my first job I can remember right after school my dad would make me split a cord a day. Throughout my sports career it has definitely paid off it is the best exercise that you can do on a daily basis
Congrats on the show announcement. Tinder slayer from down below in West Virginia. Just heard logger wade will on there two. Couldn’t think of two better guys to show what true loggers are like. Keep it up brother. Love the channel
New subscriber here from Texas. Your channel is amazing I can’t quit watching it. I really enjoy splitting wood and would love for you to make me 2 spectacular axes. One double blade and one smaller one for carrying around in the truck for my camp house. How could I go about doing that if it’s possible? If not who are some good companies I could look at to purchase these?
Hey man how are you it is a great gesture that you, and, Hogan are doing very kind,YOU SHOULD WRITE A SONG ABOUT SPLITTING WOOD CALLED THE (FLICK ) it seems to work good for splitting by hand lets remember soldiers do on to others as they've done to you kindness ,hop, and dreams, follow your heart kindness to all have a great weekend take care my friend love buckin army live life as simple as you can make it
Thankz Buckin! My fondest memory of splitting with a friend was so much fun. We would bet on a peace how many hits it would take to split,if it would be a easy peasy stuff i normally would do by myself. Great to see kidz WERKIN!
Nice swing mechanics BR! When you look at a good baseball or gold swing, the angle between the forearms and the club is maintain until the last possible moment and then the club head is released and accelerated. Cutting power is head weight x head speed.
Put together a video with an interview with the folks who design competition axes. I would love to understand why those heads are made the way they are and how competitors decide which axe to use on what kind of wood
Good crew at work there. Ganges sure can swing an axe, look out Billy, he’s gonna out pace you soon. Nice sneak peak of the 44.....can’t wait to see her cut eh :)
Oh my goodness! Reminds me of the elm I was trying to split.... Needless to say I immediately stopped selecting elm for firewood... Many people hear softwood and think easy to split and hardwood difficult to split. I find the ash, maple, beech, cherry and oak super easy to split. The hardest wood I've tried to split is elm, pine, knotty cedar and a certain type of really string oak! I find hardwood is for the most part easy to split with some exceptions. This balsam is stringy and tuff... Get all the boys from the local gym to try 3 to 4 hours of this!
Tyson is getting quite the workout 💪 southpaw side. Reminds me of my Kebo - young son. Hogan's at it plenty from the southpaw side also. Buckin' true that on the aerobics of the handled-steel.
You ain’t ever had a hard time chopping wood until you encounter a sweet gum tree. The wood grows in a spiral and is super stringy. We never were able to split it with an axe or maul and when we got out the log splitter it bit in and twisted the log over 90 degrees and get stuck...
You just dont split sweetgum unless you have to. And if you do, you use a splitter, axe, mauls, wedges, hatchets and anything else you can get your hands on
Love this ! I bucked a good bit this weekend, we were camping so I hunted up some old takedowns, and split it up.....great little workout. Spread the love guys
So Buckin', does splitting wood strengthen your core? I do core exercises a lot but it's not really giving me fast results. I do know that swinging an axe splitting wood gets my heart rate up, and makes me tired. But I really need core work. According to my surgeon, I need it BADLY.
It does to an extent as it's almost like a standing ab crunch, but the range of motion in the waist is limited in wood splitting. Core needs to be worked with a variety of movements. Lying leg raises are good, suitcase carries, sideways walking with a weight overhead. Look at Athlean X on RU-vid.
Hi Mate, I come from the small town of Cessnock in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia, 2 hours from Sydney. Billy full details sent to your website mail.
Very Rarely a Pine Tree will throw a "Spike" (my Dad's name for it), in the wood just like that Balsam does. When Pine does that, sometimes it's full of Crystallized Pitch and it makes THE BEST Fire Starter you can get. And Smells Like Heaven!!! Thanks Buckin'!!!
I've been changed, I want to TESTIFY, LORD, LET ME TESTIFY, a slogan on BB Ray's Tee-shirt years ago said something like ' Be Kind' which along with others nudges changed me a bit. Now today a young lady out in public was wearing a Tee-shirt with writing to say 'When you get up in the morning, share a little kindness.' So enough already you Do-Gooders you. I get it. The fact of the matter more often than before I find my self floating away from the situation by a few feet to size things up and consider my neighbor. Funny to me. Funny huh? Be well, I have to go pick some flowers or something - screw it how about a beer. But, be kind.
Hey Bucken love your videos. 66 here just retired in January. Desk job. Splitting my first round of wood with a maul and it’s a tough one I think it’s honey locus. But I am inspired. Thank you
good company nice axes nice wood [good colour] nice truck way to pretty for you [you need to roll it a couple of times on the freeway] and dont say "DONT PUSH ME" with that bandana on, you,l scare the subs away
That wrist flick thing - obviously it works, you're doing it. And I can't imagine how I would without wrecking my wrists! :) I'll try it at some point and we'll see, but it just looks like it's gonna hurt ;)
I go to a 36 inch handle for my splitting axes. 6 inches is 20% of 30 inches. If you are strong enough to manage the length you can either hit harder with the same swing as a 30" or back off on the swing a bit...At my age, not having to swing as hard is a big deal. GOing with a heavier head and a longer handle let's me work all day because I don't need as much core muscle effort.
You do this little leg hitch when your giving it all to a round. My grandad (Mom's dad) taught my father to go over the head. I guess it would be rougher on the body than what you're doing, but man it sure worked well on most species except hickory.
I was busting up a sycamore earlier today and not a single grain in the top 15ft of the trunk was straight. The grain spiraled out about 1 1/2" and curled back in every foot and a half
Yeah boys, this is original crossfit right here boys. Was it Franklin that said, wood will warm you twice? Love what your doin' and love the comments as well.
That's the way my dad taught me 50 yes ago. Flick that axe just before it hits the wood and it's all good! 😀. BTW, he also said it was easier to split from the top of the wood. Thought I might pass that on and see if you see a difference. Although, we were splitting oaks, hickory, and some southern pines (Tennessee). Your type of wood may be totally different. Thanks for taking the time to teach what you know!!
Is it just me or is the flick technique less obvious / necessary on these harder splits. I seem to loose downward pressure trying to flick and need the pressure to split narly rounds
I love those old handles it is a whip. My friend broke my flint edge in half she was scared I was going to be mad since that axes is my baby but things happen. I have the head put away till I can find the right handle for it.
yup 55 still climbing /splittin /cutting buckin running driving fixing every thing thats broke and take a close look at my icon pic yea im really Bionic look up Hugh Herr TedTalk
Hey buckin what I like to do with this wood is to 1/4 it with two mauls using one as a wedge and one as a sledgehammer then axe split it after trust me buddy it’s a lot easier I use the fiskers maul for the wedge because the head is ok to hit with a sledgehammer
AS SOON AS YOU SAID YOUR GOING TO THE GYM I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO SPLIT LOL HAHA THATS GREAT THATS THE SAND THING I SAY TO MY SON THE WOOD IS MY GYM HAHA THANKS BUDDY HOWS ALL THE SUBSCRIBERS DOING TODAY YOU ALL HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY WILL YOU AND HELP SOMEONE TODAY YOU WILL MAKE SOMEONE DAY
Question Buckin....what's your experience with splitting and burning Gum (sweet gum). We are covered up with them here in Arkansas and I have around 15 trees 80 to 120 feet tall that I have to get cut down. Just wondering what would be the best thing to do with the wood.
Your a great man for rehanging his axes that why I would love to help you with that let me know how much the handles are and I will pay for them stay true my brother
