Our last morning at Ascension Island has us reminiscing about all of our incredible memories that were made in the middle of the ocean. But as we sail off the morning, our attention turns towards BRASIL and what this wild and unknown country has in store for us! With a swift sail off the mooring, we begin the last leg of our Atlantic Crossing- a 2,300 nautical mile sail to Ilhabela, just south of Rio. But I think Neptune wanted us to earn this one a bit more, and so our auto pilot malfunctioned at the last moment which meant we would have over 2 weeks straight of hand steering. But hand steering to Southern Cross didn't end up being quite so bad ;) We tried a bit of a different approach to the filming and editing of these four passage videos for you guys, so we hope you enjoy the themes you'll find in each one! Mad Love from the CREW!

This is our story, a story of three souls sailing around the world. It is a story about sailing and travel and adventure. But it's also a story about meeting amazing people and making life long friends. It's a story of people living their lives in an alternate way, in close connection with the beautiful people and amazing planet that we call home. Our experience has affected us so profoundly we want to share it, hoping that others may find inspiration to follow their dreams and do what they love.

I come from a long line of Scottish Trawler fishing men. I've never forgotten what my Grandfather said to me at the age of 4; " The sea is either your best friend or your worst enemy". I'm now 75 and have never forgotten. Wishing you good winds and a safe passage. Bestes. Jack.

I LOVE the dynamics of this crew. Maybe it's how you've developed as story tellers, but it's more than that. Not that any of the prior crew weren't wonderful, but the addition of Lisa, Elizabeth and Alex has been magical, each bringing such earnest, honest and authentic perspective to the journey. I could go on for hours about how special I feel this iteration of the Delos crew has been, but I'll leave that to you folks to keep producing such lovely stories.

I am living on my sailboat in Mexico only 4 hours from the USA. I am staying close to my son and when he graduates in 2 years I am going to get 6 people on board and sail off to live life like Delos. Thank you for inspiring me to live this life. If anyone wants to experience a live aboard yacht experience, I am here for you and that is how you can buy me a beer! Haha

Classic music, beautiful beam reach sailing, very heady philosophizing, brilliant editing Alex Blue(very strong Killa stop action flavor), stunning sunrise, sunset shots all combine to produce an epic Delos video. I have watched every Delos video published, many several times and feel this may be the best ever. Congratulations!-Ray

I truly felt that I was onboard with all of you in this video. Whatever change you made in the filming and editing worked for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Life is slower and everyone is family and enjoying each other and the passage. Keep it up and may the rest of the passage be as kind to you.

I remember hand steering across the great Australian bight and the compass light was out. So we were steering by the stars. We had a novice on board and gave him a star to steer by. About an hour later he calls out " I've passed that star, can you give me another one please".

I really like what Alex said, "One Team, One Crew, One Family."! That is the way I have always thought it to be aboard Delos. Also loving to see the hand steering and how Señor Brady made the connection with the 'Old Ways'. What a rush, to sit here and see everyone and everything aboard Delos, just fall into synchronicity. It makes me so sad, that I get to see and understand your beings, interact and share the magic together, all the while, I am thousands of Nautical Miles away, and just the 'Average Joe', wishing to be part of that magic. But, as I mentioned, your episodes always put me into such a great mood, like the thrill one walks away after a skydiving 'Boogie', leaving the ear-to-ear grin, The Delos Crew always know hot to make happen. Love and Light to you, Delos Crew. From the Greater Pensacola, FL Area, Love you all!

The Delos "crew" has occasionally changed personnel, but they are always, first and foremost, family! They bring people aboard, give them a "home", and make them feel welcome. Even when we are thousands of miles away and have never set foot on the boat, they make us all feel we are part of the "family". Great sailors, but even better people.

EPIC! Just love the way each of you expressed your feelings about sailing and especially about the hand steering. I agree that there is someting more pure and honest to hand steering. It must bring you closer to the true sensation of sailng as you feel the rudder, you observe the cloth and waves in a more intent way. Basicaly you are much more in tune with your immidiate enviroment. Another great video. There was something very inspiering and down to earth( sea) about it that gave me goose bumps. Thanks for sharing this great experience with us! ❤️❤️ to you all from 🇨🇦

i suppose now alex knows...there's nothing more invigorating than having the helm of a boat under sail... it was nice to see her reaction...good for you alex. it isn't 'cheating', but it's not the same with electronic helm...the real thrill is when you make the boat sail herself WITHOUT autopilot by trimming the sails, even to the wheel! it is like the best of both worlds...you are 'engaged' but also enjoying the freedom of hands free sailing...it takes time, patience, endurance, and test your knowledge of your boat and the sea...feels so good as you learn HOW to sail... that always happens when the electronics fail... have you all worked out what you will do when the windlass fails??...what if captn has a broken rib from trying to save brother from the shark attack, who now has one arm, and it has a beer in it?...hahaha... good luck crew :)

I think I can see the DNA in the videography, guessing Alex's camera and artistic eye with depth-of-field but I could be wrong. The credits tell me what I can already see and hear that Alex had a hand in editing and voice-over. Alex I still adore your voice, you are destined to be a singer in a band some day I think. The 1st of 3 passage video was nice, a slow pace, exploring personalities, I'm glad hand-steering was something enjoyable and not a show-stopper.

I’m jealous of Delos.😉. Hey folks, I’m just reviewing the old stuff. It’s likely my lack of awareness, but, I don’t recall seeing you go into much detail of sail trim. I’m just learning some physics of what’s involved in sailing. So, I’m trying to put the puzzle pieces together. I do have a question (following my statements. - I hate it when people say they got a question, but don’t ask a question. 😂). But, I digress. In this episode, you’re saying the wind is right on your beam. Thank you for the shots of the flags and sail trim. The wind looks directly from your port. If the sail(s) were straight along the centerline with the boat, the boat would heel over, with not much forward progress - if any. Likely just get pushed to the starboard. If your sails were pointing along the path of the wind, they would luff. But at least the boat wouldn’t heel. So, you trim your sails to get potentially max forward progress. But, the wind blows you off coarse. So, you correct the course with your rudder. But, the position of the rudder causes drag and slows you down. So, I suppose you find the right trim to reduce the rudder drag, and sail with an acceptable amount of heel. How soon can you see the impact of a moderate adjustment to the sail trim in regards to speed? If in strong winds, is it immediate? Do you have to give it some time to see your speed increase? It all started a couple of years ago, where something prompted me to just RU-vid how to sail Josh Post popped up with some basics. Next thing that pops up is SV Delos. My virtual life has changed forever. I get to live vicariously through your crew- heck, through your cool family.😂. Yeah, there are a few others I follow. But, from what I can tell and have heard, SV Delos wins the crown. Cheers! ✌️🤙😎

Have been following y'all (Southern thing) since you started blogging on the "tube". I can indeed remember being in your shoes seeing the Southern Cross low on the horizon when making way from Key West headed for the Bahamas then on to Big Corn and Little Corn islands delivering light cargo intraisland in a great never-ending circle route back in the 70s. We didn't have the modern day plotters , GPS, or even auto steering aboard or 64' (LWL) Ketch rig. A true hand built Formosa style Tiawan Clipper of double planked Mahogany, Teak and a bit of American Oak. We had winches aplenty, hand cranked and muscle driven, ah for electrics or hydro, but, we stayed in fine shape, no sleep, but fine shape. We Spent 6 months refitting her standing rigging, all her shrouds and lines, tackle and transformed 2 of her (SV Eleutheros) cabins to carry light cargo and 2 passengers to afford our calling to be at sea and call the sea home for over 10 years. Nothing in the world like sailing a good size Ketch by hand 24/7, shooting the stars or sun using a sextent in plotting our passage to whatever port to offload and pickup whatever folks needed while they lived in the islands. Be well all you aboard. Sailing by the stars and steering by hand, feeling her heel in your legs, shifting her weight from one to another, decks moving with the roll, listening to her sticks and decks talk while her rigging sang all the while the canvas beat a crisp tattoo in fine winds, it doesn't get any better. EXCEPT, when your under heavy reef, wind howling in the rigging while watching confused sea's with waves almost main-mast high, eyes watching the bows plunge under green water the whole forepeak dragging foam stinging you face while braced at the helm, heart pounding saying quietly to her, (C'mon baby, raise that bowsprit, I'll get you safe, then she'll plunge again) oh my my, back to the sea we'll go. Fair thee well fine vessel and crew ,we watch and remember our days of youth. Capt. David. SV Eleutheros (ret)

I just bought a t-shirt from Delos shop, hope it gets here before you! This departure from bird island was really emotional for me I cannot hold the tears, I am doing my first oficial sailors course besides I know how to sail already and my project is to have the same experience that yours, GOOD WINDS and Good guides you up to Brasil end to wherever you go! Hope to see you there if you give me chance😀

The first and only time I steered a sailboat was 10 years ago. From Catalina Island to Dana Point Harbor, CA. The Captain was sleeping up in the berth. A small 24' boat. 9 hp outboard only. I steered the engine by the stars. Just like on the old family rowboat with a 4hp, fishing at night. He had a cheap, non backlit compass at night. So, I aimed for a star in a constellation I knew because since 10th grade, I've loved astronomy and knew the whole sky (northern not southern). A 30 mile passage and I nailed it. The stars are so bright even 30 miles out.

It's the way we've done it for a thousand years and it's such an indescribable feeling to make your way by the stars.

I think I just came up with a new name for Delos 😎.....after the comment on the video “that so many couples have passed thru or gotten together on Delos”........I re-christen her....BorDelos (Spanish for Brothel) 😃😆 Thank you, I’ll be here all week! 🤡

Really surprised Delos doesn't have a wind/hydro vane. Not only would that give you a secondary autopilot, but a backup steering method if you lost your rudder. Another great video!

So as a comm officer in the early 90's I set a goal for the radio crew to only use HF (the Navy's version of SSB) for an entire six month Med deployment. It was the only way to train the crew up for the contingency of loss of satellite comms - especially the challenge of maintaining comms at sunset. I guess you all experienced a few go back to old school losses of technology on this passage. It's pretty cool overcoming them - bigger sense of mission accomplished on arrival.

Without knowing I have been waiting for it I have been waiting for the S.V. Delos crew to enjoy sailing (again)! Grab that tiller and givr. ha. okok Wheel. Much like seeing novices embracing breathing underwater. "When the music hits, ya feel no pain."
