If a patient can't extend their wrist or fingers, a hand therapist can make a dynamic extension splint to allow almost full use of the hand while the patient heals. Not being able to extend the wrist or fingers might happen after an accident or after a nerve in the arm is compressed. A patient might wear this splint for up to 1 year as they heal and attend regular hand therapy appointments.
