George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759)
Dettingen Te Deum (HWV 283)
"We Praise Thee"
The work's long title is "Te Deum for the Victory at the Battle of Dettingen". Handel composed it in 1743 to commemorate the victory at the eponymous battle only one month prior. Along with its allies, Hannover and Austria, Britain vanquished the French during the War of the Austrian Succession. It was the last battle at which a British monarch - King George II in this case - is known to have been present.
