HANDEL "Hallelujah" from "Messiah" (for Brass Quintet)

Certainly the most performed and well-known piece within G.F. Handel’s “Messiah” is the “Hallelujah.” While we often associate it with Christmas, it is in fact the finale of the second part of Handel’s oratorio, focused on the Passion, and specifically the Resurrection and Ascension. Here is a version of the piece for brass quintet. Sheet music is available here:

The arrangement for five brass players stands on its own, or you can add timpani (straight from the Mozart scoring of the piece). It also includes a keyboard part, and may be played alongside the original sung version.

This is such a high pitch for a Hallelujah chorus arrangement, set in E major scale with the concert pitch of D. Most of us preferred this arrangement to be played in the C major scale with a concert pitch of Bb

Someday, I may do a lower version. This is the correct key...how Handel himself wrote it. And while more difficult for brass players, this has a real brilliance you cannot get in the key of Bb.

I like it on the bright key best. That said, I’m likely to later produce a version in a more brass friendly key (probably Bb) for those who might prefer that.

As so often happens, writing this arrangement reminded me of its genius. This music has become so common that it’s easy to just write it off as “another Hallelujah Chorus.” It really is so well crafted.

Ahhh. This is so exciting. One of my favorite pieces to listen to. Whci brass instrument would you guys suggest is the hardest to master? Also, would you say knowing how to play a brass instrument is an advantage in order to learn the rest in the brass family (like do you blow the same way in each one)?

I missed this comment somehow (usually, I answer right away). Anyway, thanks for commenting. I think we'd all agree horn is the most difficult. It's just wonky. Certainly, if you can play one, you can probably at least get a sound out of most of the others. Also, for the valved instruments, the fingerings are generally the same. But each is its own creature.
