From the 1985 live performance of Semele at Carnegie. In this series of uploads I've not edited out the applause in order to keep the flavor of the live performances that evening.
Thank you so much for your videos. Kathleen Battle is my all time favorite singer. I absolutely love her in the role of Semele. Hearing the live recordings are far more exciting than the CD versions and I cannot thank you enough. You have truely made me happy. THANK YOU! I have a magazine from 1985 and in the interview with Kathleen Battle, she states that after her singing Myself I shall adore, Marilyn Horne turned to her and said "You have arrived" I love it!
Thank you. This just shows you what is missing from opera today. Nobody sings like this anymore, with a sound that can just make you cry by just being.
Wish that echo that interferes with that beautiful was absent. It does make some idiots think that is rhe real ly how the singer sounds. Ms. Battle's voice was as PURE...AS A FLAWLESS DIAMOND!
However self destructive and winding her lifes path may have been, this lush and shining splendour is registered forever, and that's all that matters to me, what a truely great, great artist!
