You are a colibri whisperer my dear. Sometimes I can install a "bond of trust and understanding" with animals. I escaped the EU and migrated to SA and here I saw my energy saving picaflor in the relativly cold. I installed an upside down soy bottle, but it lost drops because of temperature changes. Today I installed a red box with holes and a one side shut bottle, which is not anymore upside down, but almost horizontal hanging. My Pica was not amused. Now he must come from above and suck it up. He checked and wanted the now closed hole on the downside. So I talked to him and made a noise as if I was sucking the sugarsirup. It worked with the bottle in less than a minute, but the box so far not. I wonder if he will get it within the next days. I will try to talk him into it. :-)
Beautiful creatures. They are so trusting. I hope a human would takes advantage of that. The moment you shared with them is pure innocence and a pleasure you would never obtain from any human invention.
I found them on Amazon, years ago. I don't remember what link but if you look for handheld feeders, there should be a lot to choose from. I really like the handheld feeders made by Perky Pet. They have 3 feeding ports and fit nicely in the palm of your hand.
It didn't take too long I guess.. I usually have feeders out so they see us in the window and in the yard. One evening I took down the feeders to refill and they were buzzing around me so I tried the handheld. It was so precious! I think if you are slow and quiet they will trust you.
