This brings childhood memories. In the Caribbean we used to transfer the line from the plastic container to a soda can or thick stick. We did small jobs to buy hooks and we gathered worms and grubs from the area. We got fish left and right Everytime. Thanks for this video. It put a smile on my face 😁

To whoever watches this video - braided line doesn’t become invisible underwater. It’s very widely known in the fishing world as being the most visible line. It’s common for anglers to use a fluorocarbon leader when using braided line to counteract its fish-deterring qualities. I personally use very light clear monofilament line for my emergency kit.

PS I have a small Cuban type set up too that I just put in my bike bags because I plan to go fishing today or tomorrow. Here is a word of advise I learned from Cuban fishermen. Take a piece of inner tube with you to put around your finger so that the line won't cut into you, especially with large fish.

Good idea. I use leather work gloves on my hands.
@theprophetez1357
@theprophetez1357 4 года назад
@@jasholden9741 gloves are better than nothing, but generally when fishing with a Cuban reel I keep the line across my index finger and can feel when they are nibbling. The piece of rubber still leaves you that sensitivity, but like I said gloves are better than bare hands. I have seen fishing line cut right into fingers leaving a nasty wound.

I created my first one of those when I was like 8 used spider wire spool. I still have it lol have 4 swivels on it and bottom one I put a sinker on and is further away from the other swivels and the other swivels are equal space apart. I've caught three fish on that rig before.

I wonder if you could take a heat gun and modify the lip of that spool to be more like a Cuban yoyo... might get a bit more casting distance that way.

It's a non native species and he throws it back.I would think you would want to take the invasive species away so it would not hurt the habitat. LOOKED GOOD TO EAT ALSO. didn't mean for the caps!
@robbabcock_

I hate to bag on the guy but I was thinking the same thing. Where I'm from it's illegal to throw certain fish back, you're supposed to keep or kill them.
@chickenpotpie4045
@chickenpotpie4045 3 года назад
He said non native, he never said Invasive. Peacock Cichlids/Bass were intentionally introduced to Florida waters in 1984 by the FWC, they are not invasive, but they are not natives, they are originally South American, generally from Brazil, Guyana, Peru etc. Peacock Bass are a particular favorite fish for Florida anglers and a lot of them do ask that you release Peacock Bass since they've only ever been stocked once when they were originally introduced and have been self sustaining ever since. LOTS of research into the viability of their introduction to Florida waters was done before they were ever introduced and it was decided that it was a worthwhile gamble that has since paid off as it doesn't negatively impact the local ecosystems and it attracts anglers from the world over to fish in the one place where you can catch an Amazonian Fish in the morning and a Sailfish in the afternoon, and then some giant Snook in the evening. I can catch Snook and Sailfish near my island, I'd have to take a flight over to Brazil to catch a Peacock, or just go to Florida.

I was attacked at night by a HUGE gator. I was fishing under a bridge by the Everglades at night. I was fishing under a bridge and standing in the dark. I was reeling in my first cast and was just a couple feet from the waters edge. Just as the top lure was approaching the shore there was a huge splash that had me backtracking double time. It could have been the end of me. I still live in Florida but I try and stay very aware around lakes, rivers, and swamps. I have had as couple of other really close calls, especially at night. So be careful if you are in gator territory. I am currently uploading a video and have others showing some of the gators I have run into.

I'm little expert on fishing and i need your advice on lines to use on saltwater, surf fishing. at the beginning i will use a yoyo because i like it and in the future i will buy a rod. so my questions is: 1. can i use only fluorocarbon line on yoyo or i need a fluorocarbon leader to attach to it ? 2. is it the best for a yoyo or should i use like braided with fluorocarbon leader ? 3. what sizes do i need for the saltwater ? 4. right now what is the good brand to buy from ?

Good info but your reel in technique is not good my dude. You should try to keep everything inline as much as possible, fishing line can cut the crap out of your hands if you ever hook into something good. I once hooked into a really nice trout that I had to peel off line for, the line cut my hand something fierce but I got that fish.
