FYI, this is not about how to fix setting pressure differences, we have offer videos covering that, this is about a work around way to let you use what you have at that moment when you are loading and find seating pressure differences...

I've often noticed some variation in the force needed to seat bullets when I'm loading ammo, but the penny never dropped that I could segregate the rounds to keep my groups more consistent! Great tip, thanks 👍

The way you describe how you sort is exactly what I've done for many years. I will turn some upside down, then label accordingly. But just this past weekend I decided to sort them into different ammo boxes based on how they feel as I seat them. Then create a label with all the data and label those that seated - "easy/smooth" "medium resistance" "stiff" I've also noticed that the more resistance there is, the base to ogive measurement is always longer, from 2 to up to 8 thousandths, which makes sense. Instead of adjusting the die and making them all the same, I just include that data also and test them as they are - Easy/smooth - B/O = 2.750 (as an example) Medium - B/O = 2.770 Stiff - B/O = 2.800 and so on. It's actually been consistent for me give or take 0.001 That ammo box is nice If you ever get around to it and the brass is available, I'd be interested in seeing how 308 and 708 Alpha Munitions brass compares to Lapua. I've always thought Lapua was best until recently when some really good shooters who have youtube channels are saying Alpha Munitions is in first place, then Lapua.

Well said Mark, and another great tip for all I have been doing the same for many years, especially with seating depth (which I can change on the run) and seating pressure variations as I am reloading. I have found that at the end of my reloading session that I might have a few rounds where the seating pressure is tight, then I can pull the projectile, tip out the powder and expand the neck out another 001" and then re-do that bullet to my chosen seating pressure. Hope I have explaines it correctly

It all comes down to a level of detail or how much of a perfectionist one is. I’m sure Some people look at this procedure as a means to an end and just do what needs to be done.

Exactly what I do. This really helps make bullet seating pressure more consistent. I used to wet tumble and my pressure needed to seat a bullet was all over the place. I have better luck now not cleaning the case at all and just seating a bullet with the soot from firing.

I built myself a force-feedback press that measures the seating force using a dial gauge, and a die to go with it. I was surprised how much the force actually changes even when they felt consistent on a normal press. I have shot a few groups that were all very nearly the same and some that had the best and worst in one group and so far I'm not seeing a difference on target. But I have to point out that I am jamming my bullets into the lands a fair amount, which might make the actual seating force less relevant. Test will continue.

Hey Mark I believe you answered the question of how you occasionally get a flyer when shooting factory ammo. If you think about it insertion force can have an impact on your accuracy. Nice case by the way I'll definitely be checking it out. Have a great day Sir...

🇦🇺😎👍Nice case….. Mark I’ve sometimes experience challenges like that and it does frustrate me when reloading centre fire rifle. For me I have a much better time reloading straight cases for my 357 mag and my 38 special…30/30s ok as well… Great video , interesting insight 🏁

Top info, you get back what you put in, a guy at my range wins most monthly comps, puts lot's of effort into it,he's a mechanical engineer like yourself, i heard a couple of guys moaning that he cheats, when I asked them to explain it became obvious that they used factory ammo and couldn't be bothered to handload....so in their minds he was cheating by putting in the effort that they didn't want to do 😏 gotta wonder.

A lot of companies are trying to make money from selling these Chinese plastic cases. You can tell they are all made in the same machine / factory by the moulding form and marks. Come in various colours, Black, yellow, green and orange depending on the intended use / market target. But what is most noticeable is the difference in retail prices between producers. The cheapest are black aimed at the automotive trade. Marine yellow are more expensive and those aimed for shooter are about the most expensive by large orders.

Mark, does neck tightness have more or less effect on velocity than bullet jump to the lands? I know you said a couple years back you start 40-50 thou off the lands.

In my humble opinion, the biggest hurdle to performance is doubt. Doubt your rifle, ammo, ammo components, weather, and the biggest one - am I shit? The more elements you can scientifically and methodically eliminate, the better.
