Amazing, thank you. I was always fixated on using old engine oil for blueing and hardening.

Don't you have to temper the screw after quenching it?

And that is a bolt. Not a screw. Lmao.

Sorry Jon but you are wrong. It is a screw, often referred to as a machine screw. Here is the easy way to define between the two. Bolt: A bolt is an externally threaded fastener designed for insertion through the holes in assembled parts, and is normally intended to be tightened or released by torquing a nut. Screw: A screw is an externally threaded fastener capable of being inserted into holes in assembled parts, of mating with a preformed internal thread or forming its own thread, and of being tightened or released by torquing the head. Most machine screws are slot or ph headed. Hope that helps.

Hey! Using a die is a cheat! What about cutting a thread with a file? 😆
@SwallowForge
@SwallowForge 2 года назад
I have done that. I have also made hand made taps and dies. Other than being able to be smug and say you did it, its a pretty pointless exercise 🤣

Standard threads for which a die exists - not an antique then
@SwallowForge

Hand cut threads will be on another video. This was for a modern daily shooter. Antique gun restoration is a whole different kettle of fish. :)

Whitworth threads have been around since the 1850s, so quite possibly antique.
