dear Ali syed , before starting the treatment, look at the radiography , estimate the working length, just estimate!.. for example, real number is 21mm , but your estimation is 18mm and its ok (it is a estimation, not exact number, always estimate a few milimeter less than apex).. then take a number 10 file, go down slowly , you are sure that till about 15-16 mm down its totaly safe and way far from apical foramin, because your estimation was about 18mm and you`re inside even less than that , now its time to install the apex locator , and try to go deeper till it beeps .. many dentists find it helpful to do a coronal enlargement before confirming the exact number with apex locator ( remember your estimation ? 18mm right ? so coronal enlargment would be about 5-6mm! ) so why they do it ? why they dont confirm with apex locator in the first place before coronal enlargement, well answer is : because they wanna go inside with apex locator on, even easier after coronal enlargement.. try this, on a extracted tooth, and you will understand the whole concept easily .. have fun and enjoy your practice, best regards, Dr.sina with 3 years practice , Iran

thnx for such great tips in easy manner wat I understood basic difference between crown down and step back technique is following in step back technique we first confirm WL then prep on increase diameter till master apical file is prepared but more chances of ledge, and pushing debris in apical reigon but crown down is pretty safe method and minimal chance to debris push to apex Dear Dr here is my question if I use crown down technique although its safe but my mind will be always thinking about working length, that I shouldn't go beyond yet I Haven't confirmed it what what is technique u use to decide that how much length one should fix for coronal and middle preparation and what when is the right time to determine WL with apex locater in crown down technique sir another question is it is just my thought that if I use smallest no of K handfile first and take WL first then I use crown down technique to shape canal would it be a gud choice as WL is decided so I can proceed easily with crown down method for BMP pls do answer thank you REGARDS

some systems say to use one or two files, but is like telling a car mechanic to use only one wrench for all the screws. every tooth has its own anatomy. i will say at least three two 4 files should be used
