Shop at B&H: bhpho.to/1uWlBaA The Atomos Ninja Star is the perfect external recorder for a DSLR. It's pocket sized and wraps the signal from your camera in one of three ProRes formats.
I was already to jump on this one when it came out, however after extensive research I found that after you add up the fact that you have to purchase a couple c-fast cards, a card reader to read those cards, your looking about $500+. For a couple $100 more you can get the Ninja 2, which has a screen added. I wish they had stuck to the ssd or better 2.5 HDD capabilities like the Ninja 2:-(
I have an Older Canon XL2 videocam. Will this device work for me to transfer my files to my computer software? Thxs for your interesting video. Joaquin in Arizona.
The Atomos Ninja Star has been discontinued and is no longer available. It would not connect to your Canon XL2 as the Atomos Ninja Star only has an HDMI input. Consider using this device to transfer footage to your computer: Elgato USB Analog Video Capture Device : B&H # ELVC: bhpho.to/2OKew2p >Mark< Standard USB 2.0 interface Captures from RCA composite and S-Video sources Perfect for digitizing old home movies Compatible with NTSC, PAL, PAL/60, and SECAM signals Includes free download of Elgato Video Capture software for Mac and Windows Software features basic video editing tools, allowing you to trim unwanted footage away Exports to H.264 format, perfect for iTunes, the iPod, an iPhone, the Apple TV, RU-vid, and iMovie Compatible with Mac and Windows (please click on "Specifications" tab)
You mentioned using the Ninja Star on a drone. I have a phantom 4. Would there be any advantage to using the Ninja Star? 4:2:2 10 bit output? I understand the Star does not record 4K
Unless you are using on a drone or really need to save weight is better going with a Atomos Ninja 2 is the best choice, the media cost is way less and you get and field monitor as well
This may sound archaic and stupid to the hi-tech crowd, but I'm still using a Canon HV 30 with no tape in place - great lens -, (with JuicedLink interface plugged into audio input), firewired to my Mac, capturing live and recording with either QT Pro or Squeeze Pro. I'm outputting with ProRes codec. So...can I use the HDMI output on the HV 30 and capture to the Ninja Star instead? I require 1080p24. Frankly, so long as the quality is as good as I now get with capture to Mac, I'll be happy. Much less noise and more freedom when recording in a computerless environment, with no computer fans and RAID drives running. And what do you mean by 'clean' HDMI?
It's possible, but it really depends on your camera. If your camera doesn't have clean HDMI out, you will be recording at a lower resolution than you would in camera. On the other hand, certain cameras have the ability to export higher quality video than they can record internally (they might only be able to record 8 bit 4:2:0 internally, but can export 10 bit 4:2:2 externally). In this case, you could get higher quality video using an external recorder. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com
I have an A7sii and use cine 4 profile. Is the profile outputted via HDMI into the Ninja Star? Basically want to know if what i see on the camera monitor is what I'll get recorded. Thanks.
+Browns Films The ATOMOS Ninja Star does not offer LUT (Lookup table) support, so you cannot see the image on it as you do on your camera using the Cine 4 SONY profile. >Mark
While technically, you could hook the Atomos Ninja Star up to the T3i, the T3i does not have a clean HDMI output. So, it will not be able to record full 1080 video. *Christina*
Raúl Mastronardi The Atomos Ninja Star will still record even if the camera doesn't have clean HDMI out, but it will be regulated to the max resolution being outputted by the camera via HDMI. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com
Is there a version that can also record 4k video from an FZ1000 hdmi output. Can this record video from any hdmi output like from an ultrasound machine hdmi output. Just considering this for making teaching videos from hdmi output from ultrasound machines rather than use the rubbish video files from the machines.
For 4K video you will need the Atomos Shogun. As for the Ultrasound machine as long as the HDMI signal is a 1080 60i standard it should work fine. Dana G. askbh@bandh.com
The Atomos Ninja Star will not record 4K; 1080 is the highest resolution it will record. For 4K, you would be looking at the Shogun from Atomos. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com bhpho.to/1ie3MA5
The Atomos Ninja Star Pocket-Size ProRes Recorder & Deck (B&H # ATNIS) is a compact, lightweight HDMI recorder which stores video to CFast cards. It records up to 1080/30p resolution video via the HDMI output from capable cameras and uses edit-ready Apple ProRes HQ, 422, or LT codecs at 10-bit with 4:2:2 color sampling. It's files are easily editable using ADOBE Pemier Creative Cloud software. bhpho.to/1yiFCxR Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh@bandh.com>Mark
Will this enable the a6000 to record beyond the 30min limit & avoid getting the sensor hot which eventually forces the camera to shut down? I can't find a clean answer to this.
Gabriel Sánchez Using the Atomos Ninja Star Pocket-Size ProRes Recorder & Deck will allow longer than the 30-minute recording limitations of the Sony a6000 camera.. You will be able to record to the capacity of the CFAST card installed in the recorder. bhpho.to/1yiFCxR Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions: askbh@bandh.com >Mark
While technically you could use the Atomos Ninja Star with the T5i, the T5i doesn't have clean HDMI output. Which means you would be recording at a lower resolution than full HD. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com
Justin Kissinger Both the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T6s and T6i DSLR cameras feature clean HDMI output, and as such, would be compatible for use with an external video recorder such as the Atomos Ninja Star. Unfortunately, the older Canon EOS Digital Rebel T5i DSLR camera does not offer clean HDMI output, and as such, the Canon T5i DSLR camera would not be compatible for use with the Atomos Ninja Star video recorder.
+Aj Ramirez The Atomos Ninja Star is compatible with the Samsung NX1, yes. Though, keep in mind that the Ninja Star can only record up to 1080 resolution. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com
SpiritBear12 Really? Because including prices for a device like this is that complicated? Lol Meanwhile over on the car channels they review machines worth 100k and they include prices. Other camera gear channels include prices, cnet reviews all kinds of stuff and, includes prices. Could I click a few more times, yep, but I could also click unsubscribe and just wait for a complete review somewhere else.
SpiritBear12 thank you! What would I do without you? Haaaha! I knew the price already, my comment was in reference to the general principal of B&H always leaving price info out. I appreciate your help nonetheless.
