The Lomography LomoKino Super 35mm Movie Camera, which uses standard 35mm film, brings the fun and frivolity of Lomography still imaging to filmmaking. Hand-cranked and as simple as can be, the LomoKino Super 35 will bring out your inner Cecil B Demille.

Why are all the comments so negative!? I am 23 just discovering the world of film after growing up for the most part with digital cameras, can someone not enjoy the simplicity of this without being labelled a ''hispter''? I think this is a beautiful way to create something you can look back on in years to come and enjoy. Its no different from the novelty aspect of a polaroid camera... STILL a fun way to capture memories.

laura navita This is a good point. I just bought mine and I’m excited to use it soon. I personally feel that while there’s a separation in the cinema film world between 35mm and 70mm (think of Dunkirk), the use of film as a medium is expressive and luminous of a memory.

Negative comments are legit im afraid (no pun intended). Lomo is exploiting nostalgia and fascination about film medium to make profit. I share your enthusiasm for film and your frustration for being labelled a hipster for it. If you are interested in the real appeal of analog media you are much better off by buying old cameras for the fraction of the price of this and enjoy far more superior results. If you're into moving picture, get a super8 camera. This is just a novelty item. Not to mention the fake message it sends saying analog equals crappy.

Lomo can only compensate for a lack available even minutes worth of film strips that are hardly available to the public these days by trying to make the most of available shorter strips meant mainly for photos. Using half the frames, and slowing the speed of course in inevitably doesn’t look great, but it’s pretty much the only way to make things work with a modern hand crank camera.

"Why are all the comments so negative!?" I don't know but is getting so tiring. Every social media platform, even youtube, is turning into this "style".

@@insistence But this is not any difference to what the re-releases and remasters of 60s-80s music industry does or what companies like Disney do

I'm very happy, that I found this camera. We don't have Motion Picture Labs here in Slovakia but there are photo labs. I definitely going to buy it !!

I like the idea. I think it is better without any 'frills.' It will be both fun and challenging to work with. There is an overused cliche about good photographers being good photographers regardless of camera (and the reverse is also said, that a good camera does not make a good photographer.) but this really will test your 'vision' through limitation. It will bring the principals of film processing (the tools we now take for granted in our editing software) to a new generation and there is nothing wrong with learning how film works, exposure, f-stops, etc. with actual film, with all the variables, risks and that excitement of waiting to see what you have captured. Of course, it will not be the camera of choice for most modern applications. Of course there is a massive 'gimmicky' quality to the product. Of course it will not replace your a7s. If you want to create this particular 'look,' from an artistic perspective, I believe it would be better to experiment with this camera rather than after effects. You might enjoy it. You might learn something. After all, art is all about medium. Stripping away all the decoration and working with simple, short images and sequences the true artists will surely create some really interesting work. I, personally, can not wait to have a go at making a piece with this camera. True, I have seen a lot of 'hipster rubbish' produced with this camera (no narrative, obvious over-dependance on the 'cool look') but honestly, this format is just perfect for some really powerful film making, when used thoughtfully.

I guess the fun and educational value is lost on these other commenters... Remember when you guys used to have *fun*?...

the people mad about this clearly don't understand its purpose. it's not to make high quality perfectly exposed films. it's just for fun little clips. and its cool that it's on 35mm, it makes it super accessible and cheap. like get a grip everyone lmao

This is a very funny piece of gear. On the most basic level, it's genius; from a real world perspective, it's garbage. If they added even cheap plastic accessories to allow for more film, and possibly even (mediocre quality) motor, it could be _a lot_ of fun to play with this for shooting low quality shorts. I'll still watch the original Nosferatu, today and be transfixed, the technology is basically the same thing. If Lomo produced a 'Lomokino-Pro', with M4/3 mount, and extra large spool for use with bulk film -I'd be buy 3 +accessories.

The Lomokino is a great camera, but this video doesn't do it justice because all the footage they show is blurry... I'm not sure why. If you check out other Lomokino review videos, you can see the quality of the footage is actually much better than here.

would you reccomend this as a good old black and white footage look for a small film? because i do 8mm videos.

Could you possibly hand roll a 50 exposure 35mm cartridge for even more filming time🤔
@ikonseesmrno7300

I hand roll fresh Kodak Vision 3 film as well as expired movie films. Usually get 42 to 44 frames in a cassette for my standard film cameras. That would get you a few more frames to shoot with. Film with a thinner base would get you about 46 exposures. I would wager the heavier acetate would probably have a better chance of running through the Lomokino without the occasional perf tear. I've not had the chance to try the Vision or XX films in my Lomokino, yet. Hope to get to it this winter.

Approximately. How many exposures is a single rotation?

About 3 to 5 frames per second. 24fps playback speed yields only about 6 seconds of viewing time. >Mark

Your better off getting a vintage 8mm or super 8 camera, way better quality and much easier to use.
@kelsiewells1675

the cost to develop super 8 film is astronomical when compared to 35mm
@bigal2643

How is the quality better? 8mm film negatives are idk.. a quarter of the size of the lomokino's? Do you mean the optics of the camera? the trade offs are not worth it.

To bad they don’t sell video’s worth of film strips these days. Otherwise surely if they do still make films strips with far more frames to ensure a more full length video, then we’d be getting even more out of this camera that can only do so much with a limited amount of frames meant mostly for taking pictures.

you can easily get 400feet rolls of 35mm

Maybe if they made tests that didnt wiggle and wobble all over the place I might be interested. But even on a tripod, just look at that wobble! I then considered maybe it could be used for animation. But a regular old SLR would be far superior and still has 35mm film. Also, the test footage look like 2 perf techniscope but the strips in the video looks like regular 4 perf film... Or am I seeing things wrong? I get the market they're going for. But there could be so much more here...

They inexplicably played a film strip, shot at 2-6 frames a second back at 24 frames a second.

Это не кинокамера, это-маленький шредер. Даже при правильной зарядке вероятность того, что пленка тупо прорвется в перфорации равна 90% . Все потому, что механизм не рассчитан на пленки с тонкой подложкой, что не есть хорошо.

What waste of precious 35mm film. Although I'm all for it; if only for the fact that it revitalizes the film industry with sales-- keeping film companies available and affordable.
