Follow my Handstand Pushup HSPU Journey in 2 months at 59 yrs old.
When I started I could just hold a handstand for 20 secs.
Lots of work still to do, but I really enjoyed the journey. I will continue training the HSPU as it's a challenging and rewarding move that really compliments so many other callisthenics moves

Wow! Amazing progress to do this in 2 months, and mind boggling that youve done it at 59! Thanks for the inspiration!!! Would love to know what your training split looks like?
@MarkLidsterfitnessgeezer
@MarkLidsterfitnessgeezer 2 года назад
Thank you Agufana The Human 😊. To answer your question, my training splits during the journey were, HSPU training alternated with Kettlebell Sport training 6 days a week. X3 HSPU x3 KB Sport. Plus mobility training X4 a week. One rest day. Training intensity altered according to how I feel on the day. Hope that helps

I've read and heard that a handstand takes at least 12 months to achieve, so I'm astounded that you've reached that goal after just two months. It's very inspirational. I'm just 50 so there's hope for me. I've been doing calisthenics basics for just over a yea, but I've really got to step up my progress now that I've achieved the base and core strength.

Thank you. It’s great you’ve been taking a steady and progressive approach to calisthenics. Best way to avoid injury. No need to race to achieve your goal. Enjoy the journey 😊

Great work as always. The biggest area of potential improvement I can see with your handstand, which will also affect your hspu, is your overhead mobility. Your handstand is very planched and requires far more strength because of it. Maybe do some overhead mobility work to straighten that angle at your shoulder?
@MarkLidsterfitnessgeezer

Thank buddy, that’s an area I’m aware of and working to improve. Appreciate the advice 😊

Thank you my friend 😊. I've realised since making this that I need to massively improve my handstand first to be consistent with HSPU's. Currently on a journey to nail my first truly strict Muscle Up, no kipping. When I finish that I will return to this and produce a much better effort. Thank you for your praise though and good luck with your own journey!

Really great work and very inspirational. I’m 56 and up until beginning of this year was the fittest I’d been in my life, exercising quite vigorously every day for several hours. Since Jan I’ve had an injury in my shoulder caused by incorrect application of the vaccine, so desperately trying to get my mobility back in my arm/shoulder. What has amazed me is the sheer amount of muscle and strength that I’ve lost through lack of exercise in a relatively short time. You have certainly inspired me to push on and see beyond this, hopefully, short term setback 👍
@MarkLidsterfitnessgeezer
@MarkLidsterfitnessgeezer 2 года назад
Thanks buddy and sorry to hear of your predicament. What I’ve found in the past when similar things have happened to me through either accident or extended times out, is that when you return to exercising somehow your neurology retains a memory of what you were able to do before and so the journey back to where you were is much quicker than the original one. Hopefully that will be your case too 🤞

Thanks buddy. As I said I had a bit of a head start being able to handstand and was well conditioned from my kb work. I’m sure you’ll nail pretty soon, just keep grinding away 😊👍

Have to say seeing your progress keeps me inspired and continuing to challenge myself. I can balance about 2 secs free handstand, and do 5-8 wall assist hspu. Just gotta work on the balance 👍

Hey what would you recommend me if every time i try a handstand push up one of my legs drop down even if the form was perfect? I enjoyed your video btw 👍
@MarkLidsterfitnessgeezer
@MarkLidsterfitnessgeezer 2 года назад
Good question. I was having a similar issue when I started attempting them and realised I was not bracing my core sufficiently on the move. So I started doing shoulder stand negatives and then consciously tightened my core and leg muscles when performing the actual move.
@yougotmynamewrong2899

how do you combat fear of falling from a handstand? Like how to just not overthink when doing it in the middle of the room?
@MarkLidsterfitnessgeezer
@MarkLidsterfitnessgeezer 2 года назад
Good question! The answer is to feel comfortable with the fall over positions so they are a shock when you do them for real. So practise slow forward rolls on a carpet from a low crouched position, making sure you tuck your head to your chin. Do the same with side rolls. Then practise the bailouts without going into a full handstand. checkout My first handstand journey video see how. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jCHHbQ2d5EQ.html. The more you practise the less fear you will have
