Hanekawa sub-plot is somehow as deep and taken care as the Araragi main story. If I had to say that monogatari has more than one protagonist, I would not even doubt on say Hanekawa is the second protagonist. Sometimes there are important secondary/rivals/villains that also make the story, but Hanekawa is an exception. She is simmilar in Araragi that takes the whole full episodes to understand her.
I mean, there's no doubt that Monogatari has more than one protagonist; The only reason we see more of Araragi than the others is due to the fact that he embraced the gift he calls a curse (His vampirism) and decided to use it as means to protect the others from getting a similar fate, and thus being the only one living in the borderline between humans and oddities (Other than specialists). Every other character tries to ignore or get over their past with the supernatural, even Hachikuji (Which is pretty much the reason why the Darkness appears, as she can't accept her existance as a ghost) and Hanekawa (Trying to pretend Black Hanekawa as just an impure part of her that was gone - Before the History Tiger forcing her into the oddity world again). In the end, all of the characters and their stories are but pieces to complete the two main puzzles of Owarimonogatari 2.
Nahh..... 🤔 shinobu would probably be the second protagonist. Her story cant even be explained with one episode even a god damn movie, She needs 3 freaking movies by just explaining her connections with araragi and takes from bakemonogatari to owarimonogatari to clearly shown a character development to the audiences
@@I-Kurai he's talking about in monogatari as a whole. We don't even see shinobu all that much (besides the movies) especially when compared to Hanekawa. Whenever Shinobu shows up, she's treated as a side character. Even in her own story there's always something else going on (Shinobu runs away/Black Hanekawa, Alt Shinobu destroy world/Hachikuji, etc.) Hanekawa is the female character with the most most parts and character development (including Black Hanekawa/Cat) If we were to choose a female MC for the series, it definitely has to be her.
@@I-Kurai I mean it doesn't but they only put vague glimpses of who shinobu is and was. She has not once entirely revealed her stories beginning . We only got to know her as she is now and what it was for her being a vampire and we only got another hint of what she was like when she was human . We only learn about araragi and shinobu or shinobu and her first thrall. But we never get to know everything about shinobu because she's not a main character . But some day after the epilogue she may tell her own tale. Also the 3 movies should have only been 1 we freaking got ripped off XD.
Almost all the main characters could be considered proper protagonists, I guess. Among them all, besides Koyomi and characters that don't narrate, the characters that deserve protagonist status would be Hanekawa, Shinobu, and Nadeko. You could also include Kanbaru, Sodachi (yes, I'll explain), and Hachikuji as well, though to a lesser degree. The first three are quite straightforward, especially Hanekawa. For Shinobu and Nadeko, though it may not seem like it, they check off the mark later on. For those that are anime-only and haven't read the newest novels, being as brief with spoilers as possible, Shinobu and Nadeko get a lot in Off Season and Monster Season. As for the other "lesser degree" characters, they all appear more in Off Season (and maybe Monster Season, depending on Ougimono). For example (light spoilers for characters appearance rate), Sodachi appears quite a bit throughout Off Season and even somewhat in Monster Season. We see more of her, giving a glimpse into her problems and whatnot. Kanbaru and Hachikuji get their own additional stories after Zoku as well, so you can go from there. There's also an Off Season character that could reach "protagonist status," though that'd depend on how Shinomono vol 1 and 2 goes. The only characters that don't really count would be characters that don't narrate or get their own character arc. Obviously, all the specialists aren't protagonists, same for the vampire hunters. Seiu/Hoshiame Higasa isn't (just Kanbaru's gf 100%). The few background characters definitely not. Ougi wouldn't be one as they don't get their own character arc and are more like a side-character throughout, not counting the antagonist-ish stuff. Senjougahara wouldn't be as she hasn't narrated at all and is, for the most part, rarely seen besides the odd minor appearances besides Nise, Koi, and Hitagi Rendezvous. I think the rest are self-explainable. So there you have it, essentially, there's a good handful that easily reaches or could reach protagonist status.
She's too slow and Arararagi looking at her as too much brightness for him. When he realized and she understood herself -he holds his heart for Senjoukahara only already.
