...Still happily hang gliding...still practicing on occasion at this site's training hill during the season when winds, weather are good. 12 years in the sport, began at age forty-five.
...That is the instructor's style - - I anticipated that when I began, as I assumed I would make typical 'beginner' errors, and need to swiftly correct them before a belly landing for instance became a more serious contact with the ground. I've been back again and again, and the instructor is good to talk to and friendly, and has greatly helped me stay safe and continue using good judgment.

The alternative to a loud voice would be an intercom in the helmet of the pilot, where no yelling was needed to get the sound to the pilot. The instructor was saying the correct things, though. Looked like a couple students weren't flaring early enough, waiting too long, and you can't get the nose to pop up when you slow down too much, because at that point, the wing is stalled, no longer flying, and can't use the air to maneuver.
...many student,s self included, tended to fly too slowly, nose push up a bit too much. Keeping nose down enough allows more airspeed, better feel of glider feedback, and sharper timing to convert that last 'flying energy' into crisp flare.
